Finding Olivia

Can you provide the assistance required by a teenaged fox in the search for his sister?

For this next title under review, DIGIMIGHT would like to invite you to explore the delights that can be encountered in the Fantasy Forest.  This particular location is the chosen setting for a romp that is made up of a mixture of Solitaire game play and puzzle solving as you attempt to reunite a brother and sister.

This game, which can be played by different profile-supported players, opens as you are introduced to Lucas, a teenaged fox who, on awakening from a deep sleep while travelling on a coach, finds himself lost in the Fantasy Forest.  Not only was Lucas lost but he had mislaid his older sister, Olivia, who was meant to look after him.  Can you rescue Lucas and help him find his missing sister?

Set against picture book style scenes, you will need to follow a trail of stepping stones that opens up into Solitaire game play as you attempt to clear the display area by removing cards that are one higher or one lower than the current card.  The appearance of the cards used in the game is customisable.  You are given a choice of two different styles of card face plus a further choice of four different patterns to be used on the back of the cards.

From time to time some card faces will be overlaid with a special decoration.  Such cards will often react in a manner different from the normal action.  When such instances are due to occur , the game will provide details of how this will affect normal play.

Clearing the various layout of cards will allow you to progress along the set path, mentioned earlier, and also bring a financial reward which can be used to purchase certain facilities to aid with the completion of the levels making up this quest.  Initially some facilities that allow you to change a card, shuffle the available cards or remove a selected card that is proving difficulty to remove, could be presented as gifts for certain achievements.  Other facilities can be purchased from the game shop.  Available for purchase are items such as a Joker and the ability to remove two cards from the display.

As Lucas proceeds along the designated path through the forest, which does have magical properties, other characters might make an appearance.  These characters include Theodore, a rather large forest ranger, and an elderly wizard.  Background information regarding these characters is available within a special section of the game and comes in printed format.

Although not actual classified as a Collector's Edition of the product, this title comes with a number of bonus items.  You get the background information relating to the game's main characters, wallpaper scenes and ten mini game puzzles.  These mini game offerings appear as you make gradual progress through the forest.  The mini games are of the Spot the Difference variety and come with a Hint feature in case you get stuck with a particular difference.

I downloaded Fantasy Forest Solitaire from Gamehouse.com where it is priced at $9.99.  The game requires a 1.0 GHz processor with 512MB of RAM and 166MB of hard disk space running Windows 7 and later.
