Today the space between Movie and Still editing is shrinking so while these are still two products they are closely linked.
However it is still two different DVD’s and also separate installs. Photoshop Elements 9 took ten minutes on a reasonably fast PC and used 2,740MB of hard disc space. Premier Elements also took ten minutes but used only 1,412MB as there is some shared code, officially called ‘shared technologies’. So after just over twenty minutes both packages are installed.
Photoshop Elements 9
Assuming you want to do more than crop an image of remove red eye then a decent editing package - and this is - one of the best.
Not surprisingly the headlines on the box say it rather well, ‘Create Extraordinary Photos’, unclutter or repair instantly which is an enhancement over the previous version.
New features include the ability to match one photo with another so that the effects look similar. Another new feature is the ability to create Pop Art, Portrait Effects or one of my favourites from my early tests creating reflections.
A lot of people want to make Personalized Creations and why not with Birthday Cards being so expensive for something that is not that special. So here you have both basic and advanced modes dependant on your ability. Once you have created your layout you now have full access to photo-editing options from within.
Once created it is now so much easier to print to a printer of your choice. There are many packages that offer organization tools and you can spend hours working out who, when where and even why but while you must do the initial work here at least it offers intelligent options to make this rather yucky job somewhat more palatable for those who have thousands of images.
Premier Elements 9
I have used this package far less than the Photoshop one but now it has a complete new area dedicated to your ‘Flip’ type camcorders the amount of video that needs something done to stop people nodding off is far greater.
Just cutting chunks from the start or the end is not what I mean. So many really basic - or free - packages can do that. Moving things around so they have meaning requires more and you know I am going to say that Premier Elements 9 can do this - and it can and does fairly easily.
While not my forte it can upload to You Tube or Facebook but while that is not by thing often I want to send videos to friends and of course even with ‘Flip’ type units the size makes it totally impossible to send via email. Even more so as most units now have HD as a base standard, so good compression is what you need and this can produce it. You will need a little practice to achieve what you want especially if you are working with speech or music inside your video.
Other new features in Premier Elements are improvements to reducing background audio noise and changing a boring scene by giving a cartoon like format. Above all overall ease of use is improved ideal if these are your first attempts.
Nothing is for nothing and you will need a faster processor and more memory so do check the specifications before purchase.
The dual pack is available from the link below for £64.97 and this contains both PC and MAC versions.
