Lego City 7344
I think Lego has been around since most of us were children but now it can produce some amazing models and the huge yellow dump truck is certainly one such item. It really stood out on their stand at Dream Toys and if it does that to a man of more than mature years what will it do for a child.
Unlike early Lego sets this is designed for easy and quick assembly and of course it then can be used as a dump truck wheels turn and or course the truck dumps.
The kit consists of two sealed bags of small parts to make the chassis of the dump truck and the superstructure. The four wheels and tyres as well as the largest single part the 26x13x10 yellow dump unit are loose in the box.
There is a comprehensive booklet that tells where every brick goes and shows this step by step. The box states 5+ as the age group, while I think that most 3 or 4 year olds would love playing with this I doubt that 5 year olds would be able to build it without help, maybe an older child or even a parent will be required to assist with construction.
I doubt they will be required to assist in the playing with that follows. Proper rubber tyres that fit on the wheels exactly like real tyres do is just one of the many points of realism.
The kit includes two mini construction workers. The stated price is £24.99 but as always look around especially online to find bargains. www.lego.com
Bullseye
Not something that came from Dream Toys but a random press release at around the same time. This emanated from the TV show that ran for many years, it probably did as much for darts as Pot Black did for snooker when that was on TV. In fact I am told that Bullseye has recently been recreated in a Saturday Night TV games show.
This is actually two products first a board game (£14.99) that will get an outing should a requested board game from Dream Toys ever arrive and a DVD that lets you play Bullseye on your TV that I will cover here. It comes from Upstarts.
The box consists of a DVD in case and a bendy bully. The DVD autoplays on insertion and you choose up to four teams. Round one and round two are pretty close to the original TV game, the third round is somewhat different but still sticks to the original framework, however I certainly do not remember cash amounts being rounded up to the nearest £10 in the original.
The whole process of dart throwing is based on clicking the enter key on your remote at the right moment to hit a section of the board and again to determine the nearness to the centre of the board.
To answer the general knowledge questions they are multiple choice with four possible answers. I found them a little more difficult than the original game.
This is stated to be for 14+, this could be right for the general knowledge but I think any 10 year old would probably be perfectly accurate at the remote control as mouse skills are taught very early in life. Most kids have at least a handheld console so control of the remote should be easy.
The stated price of the DVD Bullseye is £14.99 from Argos or online from www.amazon.co.uk. It is stated that you could also purchase a dual pack of the board game and the DVD game for £24.99 also from Argos.
