Anawiki has returned to the land of Avalon for this next game. This land of magic, powered by the Avalon Jewels, is currently under the threat of being plunged into darkness brought on by the Machinations of the evil witch Morgana. It is up to you to come to the rescue of Avalon by restoring the power of the Avalon Jewel's strength. This can be achieved through the ability of the player at completing Match 3 action in this title of Avalon Jewels 2.
When playing this game you can make adjustments to the volume levels used by background music and sound effects plus opt to play in either Puzzle mode, with time restriction to complete certain tasks, or Relaxed mode. You will also have a choice of selection the game's language from English, Spanish, German or French.
Avalon Jewels 2, as reviewed, is available in Collection's Edition format. Usually with title in this format, the game will come with a number of bonus items to enhance the appeal of the main game. These bonus items tend to be available from the game's main title screen but this is not the case with this particular offering. The bonus items have been integrated into the main game and will either be available as necessary or on a random basis as part of the main game.
The game sets you off on a winding journey through the Avalon landscape. This journey is made up of 300 stop-over points that generally house a centrally positioned Match 3 grid filled with all manner of tiles. Different coloured gems will be a popular items making up this content of the grid. Often the gems will be accompanied by elements such as shields, blocks, bookcases will various content, dragons' eggs, balls, boulders, pouches, banners, lotus flowers, ice blocks and rogues who plan to attack you when the opportunity arises. Dealing with these various elements will require different approaches, some involving multiple hits or a combination of separate actions available from certain tiles.
On the left of the grid will be a list showing the number and types of tiles that will need to be cleared from the grid. Generally this task will be completed by swapping two adjacent tiles to create a group that will explode thus removing nearby items. The resulting space will be filled by other tiles falling downwards. This action has been known to produce a cascading effect. I encountered one such instance of this cascading effect which lasted for around two minutes of constant action before I was allowed to proceed.
As usual this game has a power-up facility which features various types of power-ups which need to be earned by making progress through the levels and performing tasks. The game supports six different types of power-ups. These have been entitled Hammer, Shuffler, Infuse, Cloner, Rainbow and Mana. You can build up a supply of these power-ups so that are ready for use when required.
As mentioned earlier, this title is available in Collector's Edition format. Its extra features have been integrated into the main gaming action. Rather than select to move on to the next level, you can opt for a link to give you access to one of three mini game puzzles available. In this manner you can tackle a cut-down version of monopoly, play a dice game or a card game whereby you need to guess whether the next card will be higher or lower. At intervals you will also be presented with a scene made up of jumbled sections that need to be arranged.
With plenty of Match 3 action and mini puzzle game play, Avalon Jewels 2 Collector's Edition is available from Gamehouse.com where it is priced at $19.99. It is also available from Big Fish Games priced at £15.47. The game requires a 1.0 GHz processor with 2048MB of RAM and 282MB of hard disk space running Windows 7 and later.
