Cuisinart Mini Processor

Image of author
Not on this ocassion a new computer memory processor, something for the kitchen, it saves time and allows more time for whatever your chosen recreation maybe.

In the dim and distant mists of time I trained for two years as a chef, this is said only to state I know a bit about cooking and perhaps more important the preparation of food in fact for the last 25 or so years I have done all the cooking in my household.

Cuisinart maybe a name not that familiar to some, but they make some very powerful products for the kitchen, one might say they are the top end of the market. However in a lot of cases you get what you pay for.

This mini processor consists of the sealed motor unit, the bowl, the bowl lid, the reversible blade and just for good measure a small white flat plastic spatula. The wipe clean motor unit and the cutting blade are both good quality stainless steel.

The bowl has a notional capacity of around a pint but you would never input that quantity, you may extract close to that if you were making something like mayonnaise or hollandaise sauce. Apart from the quality of finish you also get a very powerful motor and this can be useful when chopping nuts or spices. Also a number of cheaper machines have trouble with thick consistency of items often leading to motors stopping and potentially burning out. The Cuisinart Mini Processor has a five year guarantee on everything including the motor.

The blade is reversible and can be turned on the spindle to do different jobs. There are also two speeds for the motor giving a potential four different actions and speeds for different jobs.

While this device will not peal onions it will chop them and it does so very well. I found cleaning of the bowl, lid and blade very easy, as the bowl has no curved areas, however you clean it, there are no obstructions.

The low speed setting using the ‘sharp’ side of the blade is ideal for chopping and mixing and should you need to puree food this does it to perfection. The high speed using the ‘blunt’ edge is ideal for the heavy work such as grinding and chopping of hard cheese, meat that has dried and become tough, chocolate, nuts, even coffee beans and peppercorns.

For those wanting to make very quick single puddings for cooking in a microwave this really works well even if the fat is hard. Fruit can be prepared very easily and this time of year with lots of windfall apple and pears about they can be easily utilised with a quick blast in the processor. An excellent apple puree can be chopped in the processor and heated in the microwave at the last minute.

The Cuisinart Mini Processor is sold by John Lewis, Selfridges, Harrods and lots of quality cook shops. If you are looking for a stockist in your area try ringing 0870 240 6902. The stated price is £49 and while there are other similar products on sale for lesser price you only need to watch something like Ready Steady Cook to see how often their different brand of mini processors go wrong to see this as an investment not an expense.
