Having spent a sizeable wedge of your disposal income on one of todays all-singing, all-dancing laptop or even a more basic model, you really need to consider how best to protect your purchase (and data that is stored on the laptop) when moving from one location to another. Kensington believe its Simply Portable 2 laptop case can offer a suitable solution in this respect being both functional and economic.
The Simply Portable 2 case is constructed of a sturdy, hard-wearing nylon material and is black in colour. The case gives the user three methods of transportation. There is a hand grip encircled by thick rubber tubing that initially felt uncomfortable but this sensation soon passed. If you prefer having your hands free then there is a choice of a detachable padded shoulder strap or using a side panel that enables the case to be attached to a wheeled trolley as you make your way across a busy station fore-court or an airport departure lounge.
The case has two zipped compartments plus a side pouch that can all be used to store various items. The laptop, being the most important item, has its own special compartment which is well padded and has adjustable straps to keep the laptop secure when in transit. Even when the padding is in place this compartments internal measurements are a reasonable 335 x 265 x 55mm (H x W x D). This compartment also has four pockets that can be use to store small items. Easy access to this section of the case is provided by zips running along three of its sides. It is possible to secure this zip with a lock although one is not provided as part of the package.
There is also a second zipped compartment which does not have the locking option. What it does have is a central divider. This creates two sections that can be used for storing documents and the like.
As mentioned earlier there is a side pouch. This contains pockets for storing other items such as power leads, mouse and mobile phone. Rather than a zip, this pouch has a flap with a Velcro fastener. Rubber feet on the base of the case help keep it upright when placed on the floor.
While this case will not win any awards for style, it can carry out its assigned task of transporting your laptop in a reasonable secure environment. You have a choice of carrying methods and storage space for the essential laptop and its accoutrements. Expect to pay around £37 for this case.
