Works Suite 2005 

Lets start with what a lot of people will consider the main component Microsoft Word. This is not the absolute latest version but the 2002 one. I know several people still using Word 95 and lots of people still use Word 97. There are advantages for having a later version, although unless you write novels you are unlikely to use more than a small portion of the available features.

We all need to keep check on our finances and Microsoft Money is certainly designed to do just that. Like all such packages the initial session is likely to be long as you struggle to find all the required information. However once input keeping it up to date should only be a matter of minutes per week. It will enable you to know how dire the finances are. Seriously though anyone in financial difficulties has to face the problem sometime and Money can give sound advice, once the problem is acknowledged then a plan to solve it can be worked out.

Encarta is one of the big two Encyclopedias and having an up to date version can always settle an argument or three. The version provided here is the Standard but that should be able to solve most immediate questions. If the question relates to an event a while ago then the 2000 edition would solve it as well as the 2005, but so often the fact in question was something in the last few years.

Photo Premium 10 is a vastly improved package over what Microsoft offered a few years ago and while this is only a subset of the excellent Digital Image Suite 10 it does most of the retouching and basic manipulation that the user will want to attempt on a daily basis.

AutoRoute 2005, this product had always been out of Sync with the annual release schedule and although it has always been in Works Suite it was always a release behind now for the first time the 2005 version comes out to match the autumn time frame so any new features are available in Works Suite. It now includes a lot better coverage of Europe and as in the recent versions it also includes a free copy of Pocket Streets that works on the Pocket PC platform.

Works itself is included and this has also undergone improvements so for the other parts of an integrated package such as spreadsheet and database they are here and if your needs are modest they will cope. If your needs in these departments become greater then you will need Microsoft Office and owning Works Suite allows to purchase the upgrade versions of Office at a reduced price.

The separate stated selling prices of the separate components of Works Suite 2005 come to a few coppers less than £200. The stated price of Works Suite is £109.99. I see Dabs.com have it for £71.99. That is either on DVD or as I have it on five CD’s.

The release date for this product is the 15^th October.
