With its reputation of being closely associated with organised crime, it might seem unusual to pair the Mafia with the popular Solitaire card game but obviously DIGIMIGHT thinks otherwise. Mafia Solitaire 2 is DIGIMIGHT's follow up making this unlikely connection. Set in 1920s America, this game covers all manner of Mafia action as you visit a variety of locations while tackling Solitaire game play.
Along with the usual options to adjust volume levels and play in full screen mode with a special game cursor, you can select from a choice of face and back card designs plus opt for a character portrait. Continuing the story line from the previous version of this title, you are introduced to a familiar scene with the appearance of Francis Barnes better known as "Frankie" by his friends.
This scene sets the standard adopted by the rest of the game as the image is of a background overlaid by a static character who delivers their lines, spoken and printed, without any semblance of movement. In this case "Frankie" informs you that you have been assigned the task of bringing down another Big Boss (Vincent J Sanders) after removing various minor thugs starting with Jacob Bergman who is the owner of the local yacht club.
The removal of the criminal element will be carried out by working your way through 200 levels of Solitaire action as you clear away different card layouts. The familiar Solitaire game play of creating chains of cards that are one higher or lower than the previous cards is used. A variety of additional features have been integrated into the main game play as different elements are added to certain cards that can block their use or provide you with useful attributes.
You can earn features such as Undo a move, switch to a certain card you need, unlock handcuffed cards or purchase special powers from the game's shop facility. Also using the money earned from clearing Solitaire card layouts you have the means to purchase certain items. You can purchase a Joker card which will act as a wild card, shoot a card that is blocking your progress, shuffle available cards and remove two cards from the layout.
Along with the shop facility, Mafia Solitaire 2 will offer an occasional mini game feature. Often this will involve finding the differences between two similar scenes. While hardly world beating, these mini games offer some relaxation.
Once sufficient progress has been made in bringing down Vincent J Saunders, you will be granted access to certain bonus items. These additional content is formed from background information regarding various members of the criminal fraternity, mini games and wallpaper items.
Prospective crime busters and those skilled at playing Solitaire can download this title from Gamehouse.com where it is priced at $9.99. The game requires a 1.0 GHz processor with 512MB of RAM and 364MB of hard disk space running Windows 7 and later.
