Ego Power+ Blower LB5300

At this time of year a lot of people just forget their gardens, nothing much grows even the weeds call a truce. So here something for those who cannot leave well alone a garden blower to move those leaves around and regiment them in neat piles.

Of course there is a natural phenomenon called the wind but that rarely gathers things in the places you want whereas the Ego Power+ will.

This model is called the 530 CFM Cordless Blower LB5300, and I freely admit this is the first such device I have reviewed. The nearest I have come to such a device before is walking along a pavement with a grass verge that has just been cut and a man with a machine strapped to him is blowing the cut grass from the pavement and into the road, this device is nothing like that but in my tests is just as powerful should you so wish to do.

It is up to 90cm long, 15cm wide and up to 25cm tall, it weighs 3.475kilos.

Clip the main unit to the blower tube and then attach the units Lithium battery and you are ready to blow.

In front of the closed handle is a power control which lets you control the amount of blow from a tiny breeze up to a gale.

Using it to remove leaves from flower beds without damaging flowers or shrubs can be done at lower levels of power with a turbo boost applied for those stubborn areas.

For those just trying to clear areas then the higher power was amazing and I managed on an area of grass to move things several metres without problem.

It is powered by an interchangeable battery a bit like those used by tradesmen for things like drills, sanders and other tools but a little larger and it uses a 56volt system.

In this case the range it powers are for mowers, hedge trimmers grass edge cutters and even chainsaws for trees.

The unit will run for up to 60 minutes between charges and has a 2AH battery; a 5AH battery will allow use for up to 150 minutes.

The blower comes with a three year warranty and the charger for the batteries with a five year warranty.

If you have a range of such products then no doubt you have a bank of such batteries and of course you need a charger and one of these was supplied with the unit. This would allow you to rapidly charge the batteries for any or all your products.

While the blower would probably get most use in autumn the grass cutter would be more employed in spring and summer, the chainsaws work would seem to be year round.

The work load I put it through was probably tiny but a professional gardener would probably find good use for it and if he/she had other products from their range I can see this being useful.

Of course having blown all the leaves into piles you need to remove them or compost them rapidly before the wind undoes all your good work.

It was easy to assemble and slightly less easy to unassembled once I had used it but I doubt the professional gardener or landscaper would ever replace it in its box.

The Rapid Charger will recharge in only 30 minutes.

Prices of the components supplied are £129 for the Leaf Blower, £79 for additional Batteries and £69 for the Rapid Charger which will also charge larger capacity batteries. If interested their site also has a range of videos.

They also do a £606 package of Leef Blower and Chainsaw with a battery and Charger.
