Home Sweet Home

Take the home environment as a source of inspiration, 8 Floor Games has produced another jigsaw collection.

For its next release in its 1001 Jigsaw series, 8 Floor Games has tackled the Home Sweet Home puzzle area with version 3 of this title.  As usual with other offerings in this series, you are provided with a  collection of 500 jigsaw puzzles.  Covering various aspects of the home environment, this collection of puzzles is split between five books that each contain 100 images of the puzzle scenes which are displayed four to a page in photo album style.

Each jigsaw image will be accompanied by a tag indicating how many pieces will form the puzzle in its default state.  This number could be between 12 and 252 pieces.  There will also be an icon to indicate whether a rotation feature will have been activated or not with regards to the pieces.  You will also have access to a series of tools that allow you to view trophies earned previously, a top score, adjust general volume settings, plus modify the settings applied to the selected puzzle image.

With a particular puzzle selected you can then make changes using a slider that will affect the number of pieces forming the puzzle.  You can adjust the choice of cut shape used for the pieces and turn the rotation feature on or off.  When satisfied, the image will then be transferred to a work screen and its pieces will be scattered randomly around the available space.

The work screen comes with its own row of available options.  You can display an image of the completed jigsaw in the top right corner or a centrally positioned ghost image onto which you can build up the completed jigsaw.  A magnifying glass tool allows you to examine individual pieces while other options can be used to carry out an automatic sort, work exclusively with either border or inner pieces and receive a hint as to the next action.  The work area also has a pocket facility in its top left corner to store pieces until they are required.

Pieces can be dragged around the work area using the left mouse button.  This task can be carried out with an individual pieces or a highlighted group of pieces.  When the rotation feature has been activated, you can rotate a selected piece with a right mouse click to check whether it will fit or not.

While the actual building up of completed jigsaw was trouble-free, I was rather disappointed with the reward screen that appeared once a jigsaw was completed.  It failed to offer any means of using the completed image.

I downloaded my copy of this title from Gamehouse.com where it is priced at $9.99.  System requirements call for a 1.0 GHz processor with 512MB of RAM and 114MB of hard disk space running Windows 7 and later.
