Paint by Numbers 14

Another chance to test your pint by numbers skill with this next product.

T1 has added to its series of Paint by Numbers titles with the release of version 14 of the software.  This product presents you with the option to either create colourful images by being directed by numbers or take the more artistic approach of free-based colouring.  Along with the two different methods of adding appropriate colour, this version 14 comes with over 60 line drawings to be used as the templates waiting for the required colour to be applied.

With this title, you are able to create profiles so that different people can test their artistic skills as they add colour to certain sketches and have their progress recorded.  Adjustments can be made to the volume levels used for background music and sound effects including those sounds that indicate when a particular numbered colour has been successfully  added to all the relevant sections of the sketch.  I found this particular feature very useful as a reminder to encourage me to move on to another numbered colour either in sequence or randomly selected.

The program spreads its collection of 64 line sketches, broken up into numbered sections, over 8 screen layouts for quick and easy selection.  However, as seems to be the usual practice, the first screen of sketches will need to be completed before you are allowed to progress to the subsequent screens in order to make your choice from the available samples.  The chosen sketch will then be transferred to a work area where it will be displayed centre-screen with a tool and information panel running along its right side.

The program gives you the choice of allowing the software to work through the numbers in sequence or permit you to make random choices from a colour palette in the order in which the colours will be selected for use.  Whichever choice is your preferred method of selection, some additional helpful features will be applied.  The currently selected numbered colour will be highlighted on the sketch template for easier recognition when applying the appropriate colour.

As some of the sections making up a sketch can be rather small, some might state very small, you do have the ability to enlarge the current view of a sketch by adjusting a slider bar or by using the mouse wheel.  Once enlarged, you can then focus the screen image on a particular area by moving the sketch around using the right mouse button.  An option is available to revert to the normal size and positioning.  You can also hover the mouse cursor over sections for an enlarged version of the number to appear.  This is particularly useful when dealing with small section.

While working on a supplied sketch, the panel on the side f the screen will provide information as to how many sections of the image need to have colour added.  This information will cover the whole sketch and also the number of sections being coloured.  It would have been useful in the information regarding the number of sections included when you were making your initial selection of which sketch would be forming the focus of your efforts.

As mentioned earlier, this title gives you the choice of being guided by numbers or working in free-based colour.  When working in free-mode you can select individual sections and apply whatever colour you wish from the colour palette.  The selected colour will become the default until you physically change it with another choice.

I downloaded my copy of this title from Gamehouse.com where it is priced at $9.99.  The game is also available from Big Fish Games priced at £7.61.  The game requires a 1.0 GHz processor with 512MB of RAM and 69.5MB of hard disk space running Windows 7 and later.
