Pop Art Painting

By following the numbers, you can create pop art images.

Continuing with its Painting by Numbers theme, T1 Games' latest release is Pop Art 3.  As with some of its previous offerings, this particular title provides you with the appropriate tools needed to take an outline sketch and add the correct colours to its sections to produce a digital image.

Allowing different people to use this Paint by Numbers package, you can create profiles that will record the progress made by individual novice artists.  Adjustments can be made to the volume levels used by background music and sound effects such as those emitted when the various colours have completed their ration of sections to complete.  This game can be viewed in full screen mode with a special cursor for pinpointing areas to add colour when necessary.

Pop Art 3 comes with 64 images to which colour can be applied.  Delivered as sketches, these images featured numbered sections representing the different areas that will need to be filled in with the appropriate colour.  The supplied images are spread out, eight to a view, over a series of pages.  While the images on a particular page can be selected in any order, all the images on a particular page will need to be completed before you can move on to the next page.

Once an image has been selected as the focus for your work, you will  be transferred to a work area which shows the sketch and a panel running down the right side of the screen.  This panel will house a colour palette numbered to reflect the equivalent sections in the sketch.  There is also a slider bar to select a background colour, a zoom facility slider, Hint feature and a button that will revert the size and position of the image to its original default state.

Using this combination you will need to transfer colour from the palette to the correctly numbered sections of the sketch using the mouse cursor as the selection tool.  The transfer process can be carried out by using the numbers in sequence or by randomly selecting them as best suits the actual colouring in process.  Whichever method you use, the appropriate selection of a particular number will result in the similarly numbered sections of the sketch being highlighted to help the artist identify them.  Once all the sections for a particular number have been coloured in then the game will automatically emit a beep sound before it moves on to the next number.

As some of the sections of the sketch can tend to be of a rather small size, it is often helpful to make use of the zoom facility and enlarge sections of the sketch for a better view.  While in zoom mode, you are provided with the ability to move around the enlarged view by dragging the viewable area of the sketch using the right mouse button.  For really hard to spot small sections, you can always call upon the Hint feature to locate a section.

The game is more of a fun type offering than one that was challenging with little general appeal.  I downloaded my copy of the title from Gamehouse.com where it is priced at $9.99.  You can also download this title from Big Fish Games where it is priced at £3.13. The game system requirements call for a 1.0 GHz processor with 512MB of RAM and 121MB of hard disk space running Windows 7 and later.
