Power from Avocado

Moving on from an animal basis (mythical and real), ThumbsUp remains in the field of nature with its next product for review. In this case, arriving from ThumbsUp is an Avocado. This is, as you might expect, an electronic rather than natural and edible version of the avocado which is some areas is referred to as an alligator pear or button fruit.
The appearance of this avocado is actually based on the shape and size of the natural avocado which comes from a tree that is thought to have originated in South Central Mexico before make the journey to other warm climates as its popularity grew on various dinner tables. Not surprisingly the fruit of the Avocado tree is also called avocado which is a large berry containing a single large seed embedded in the flesh of the berry. Depending upon the growth location, the avocado can have between 275 to 366 calories made up of fat, sodium, potassium, carbohydrate protein and is considered a great source of vitamin C, E, K and B-6. It is believed that nature’s avocado has potential health benefits including improving digestion and decreasing the risk of depression.
You could say that this last attribute of the natural avocado might explain the recently arrived Avocado device that had the ability to recharge mobile devices when you are out and about with no power socket available to do the job of keeping you connected with the world and the Internet while keeping down your stress kevels. Well that is one way of looking at the reason for the choice of an avocado as a power bank.
The ThumbsUp version of the avocado has dimensions of 94 x 57 x 36 mm (H x W x D) and has a familiarity in shape to its natural cousin while its colour scheme is a passable copy. However I am pretty certain that the beaming face, drawn on the device’s inner surface is more poetic than reality. At least ThumbsUp has retained the bulging inner stone although it does not appear to serve any purpose with regards to the use of the avocado powerbank device.
Located at the base of this avocado is a pair of USB ports made up of micro and standard varieties. A short standard-to-micro USB lead, measuring 30 cm, is provided for charging and transferring power purposes using the 2200 mAh Lithium ion battery. You also get a multi-lingual User Guide booklet with a small font face that my aging eyes struggled to read without the aid of a magnifying glass.
According to the information in the User Guide, you are meant to observe a flashing LED light during the charging of the avocado powerbank. However as this flashing LED is located within the standard USB port, it is not the easiest signal to pick up on. Once the avocado battery has been fully charged then the light will glow a steady red.
When transferring power in the opposite direction, you can use the same USB lead to carry out the same task. You just need to reverse the USB connections with the standard port providing the output and the micro USB connection linking to the mobile device being charged. Once the connection has been made then the transfer of power will begin automatically. ThumbsUp claims that this avocado’s Lithium ion 2200mAh battery should provide approximately one full charge for many smartphones via its Input / Output DC 5V/1A set up. and I am not going to disagree,
ThumbsUp has priced this Avocado Shaped Powerbank at £14.99.
