The Pure One Flow measures 22x14x9cm, the unit is covered with a rubberised material so it could withstand the odd knock and even be able to withstand a wipe over with a damp cloth if you choose to use it in the kitchen.

You can power it with a ‘ChargePAK’ or by mains; it comes with a 1.95metre lead to a small power brick plug. It does of course have alarms (both wake up and kitchen) sleep timers and more. The ChargePAK I was sent model ‘E1’ does not mention Pure One Flow but it fitted and worked correctly.

For Internet radio it has wireless support and I see from the manual an optional mini USB to Ethernet plug is available for those without Wireless connectivity.

The back of the unit has the door for the optional ‘ChargePAK’ and entry point for the plug from the mains lead. The top has the 78cm eight piece rod aerial. The left side and the base are clear. The right side has on/off button, mini USB socket as well as 3.5mm socket for headphones and earbuds and another socket for Auxiliary input.

This leaves the face, the left side has a grill covering the single speaker while the right side is dominated by the 6.2x2.5cm six line yellow on black display. Under this is a line of five chromed buttons with the end ones marked (the others are soft buttons controlled by the screens display). Finally two 1.5cm round buttons for volume and select.

Initial setup for DAB is simply a matter of plugging in the lead and extending the aerial, in just over a minute I had 60 stations available and BBC Radio 2 (default) playing at a reasonable volume. Turn the select button to change the station.

To tune the FM stations first press the leftmost of the five buttons, and use the select know to the forth option FM. Press the select button to activate your last used station, on first use you will be at the start of the FM band and presented with a low level white noise and three lines of the display showing 87.50 twist the knob clockwise to go up the dial and anti clockwise to go to the far end of the dial 107.90. by default ‘seek tune’ is on so very little static and it will automatically stop at the next strong station found and then this will show the station name.

Setting Presets is simple for either DAB or FM press the second of the line of five buttons shown as presets and select an empty preset and hold the button in for a couple of seconds and then the station of choice is shown. I am somewhat puzzled by having ten presets for FM and thirty presets for DAB, surely twenty and twenty would be better.

Auxiliary Input allows you to connect any external device with a 3.5mm socket and use the speaker as an output. Media Player lets you select any media server within range as a source to play music from. The Lounge is owned by Pure and a way for you to make choices and selections from a PC through your own account.

So this leaves Internet Radio and once you have setup your wireless router and entered your code (I found it defaulted to no encryption so it will not connect if you have encryption but this is easily changed once you know) enter your code and this is a once only process as it remembers. Now your choice of genre and stations is almost endless as if its broadcast anywhere in the world you should be able to listen via the Pure ONE Flow. However you have thousands of stations to choose from and setting up favourites at the Lounge is a lot quicker and again a one task.

A new feature is the ability to listen to something, decide you like it and then purchase all from your radio.
