Clearing Thicket Wood

Developed by Seven Sails, this next game, entitled Enchantment - Secret Hideaway Collector's Edition, sets you the task of tidying up the location known as Thicket Wood from the after-effects caused by the tourist season. As Thicket Wood is home to fairies, and they much prefer a spick and span environment to the current clutter state, your work will involve a number of tasks as you return the woods to a fairly friendly state. In order to complete this achievement, you will need to work your way through a schedule of single screen challenges that seem to be repeated on a never-ending basis as the cleansing process takes place in several locations.
Prior to entering Thicket Wood, you can create profiles so different people can play the game. Options are available to adjust the volume level for background music and sound effects with the game being viewed in full screen mode using a custom cursor. You have to accept the standard level of difficulty as no option is available to change this setting.
When entering the wood you start a cycle of tasks that begin with finding 20 gems scattered within a single scene. Once this task is completed then you can move on, without any further delay, to tackle challenges that involve finding ten pairs of symbols, recreating a scene by swapping pairs of sections of an image plus find the elements of three pieces of jewellery that have been scattered around. Other challenges that will feature on your to-do list will involve finding 20 dew drops, 20 foxglove flowers, complete a jigsaw of a particular scene and gather together 20 items of trash. There will also be an occasional game of hangman to provide some relief as you work out a word relating to a specific subject matter.
While each of these various challenges is provided with a rechargeable Hint feature, the jigsaw challenge adds a ghost display onto which you can position the different pieces to create the puzzle. Initially the ghost image could prove useful as it allows for the correct placement of pieces. However later in the process, its presence could be regarded as a hindrance as I found it might block the visibility of any available spaces for placing the last few pieces.
After working your way through the numerous cycles making up the schedule, that features no sight or sound of the fairies who are meant to be in resident, as you restore the wood to its original condition, you will be granted access to the bonus CE content making up this package. You get an additional six bonus levels that offer practice at finding elements of jewellery plus searching for gems. Twelve scenes, split equally between jigsaw and swap puzzles, plus 12 wallpapers and 8 music tracks are made accessible. As with the main game, these bonus items add nothing to the story line of the fairies who reside in Thicket Wood.
With its rather mish-mash approach to game play, I was disappointed with this game. There was a lack of a story line to hold the challenges together and any interaction with the fairies was non-existent. This game can be downloaded from Gamehouse.com where it is priced at $19.99 or Big Fish Games priced at £15.79. System requirements call for a 1.0 GHz processor with 256MB of RAM and 464MB of hard disk space running Windows 7 and later.
