While whatever space you have on your desk will always diminish to the point that things have to be placed elsewhere is a rule, there is a possible solution in the shape of the VariDesk which in effect allows your desk to grow.

While this can even be a solution for those with back problems I would suggest that you get someone to help you put it in place as it is not light in weight and if standing it on your current desk make sure that is able to cope with the extra weight.

This is a standing desk which surveys say is a more productive way of working, unlike other such desks this is variable height so tallish or short it should suit you.

It arrives in a box that is 1.02 metres x 83 centimetres and 14cm wide. The weight is enough that the courier checked I was in before he lifted it off the van. You should certainly clear the area around where it is going to be placed before you open the box, it is pre-assembled as you only need to move the spring adjustment to get it to its full size. Now the all-important figure - with the health and safety guide on the box saying two person lift - the gross weight of the box is 30 kilos but once unpacked this is reduced to 23.5 kilos, I figure I took as gospel as I do not have a suitable scale to check.

The top shelf is capable of supporting two monitors or a monitor and a notebook/laptop.

The lower shelf is suitable for keyboard, mouse and other accessories.

These then have the base for the stand below this which is where the adjustment is where you have clear space either side of the supports and indeed between the two supports as well.

The width of the unit is 98cm and the depth 99cm with adjustment of 45cm. The basic workspace is 91cm wide and 68cm depth.

They also do VariDesk Pro which does not have the workspace shelf but unless your monitors are there to show work screens from other places surely the workspace shelf is all important.

I am just under 6 feet tall and standing with the VeriDesk Pro was fine but if you are well over 6 feet then you may fine you are not that comfortable unless you have very long arms as you might be reaching down somewhat. Anyone my height or shorter should be accommodated by one of ten alternate positions so you can just stand normally. The whole point of a standing desk is that you are not crouched or stretching and therefore your body does not complain apart maybe your feet if you do not move for several hours.

The VariDesk Pro height adjustable standing desk is available from Amazon for £365 and the free delivery is very important at its weight as courier charges could otherwise alter the price significantly.
