It looks a little like a ‘tank’ with the top removed so in one form it’s just the treads that grip but once it moves into the fitment it moves as if on stilts. There are some pieces supplied to guide your Power Treads unit around a course which you design but you can go freestyle and use things found in your home to make your own truly original track.

If this was just a vehicle with some curves and twists then the stated age of five plus would be fine however as you have to assemble not just the course which is a test in itself with the pieces provided but you also need to fit the treads to the vehicle so maybe an older sibling would be useful to tell you what is possible. Although it can do some amazing twists and turns it cannot defy gravity.
You will require two AAA batteries - not supplied - to power the ‘tank’; this is the ‘All Surface Vehicle’ that is 10cm long and 6cm wide.
Once you have inserted the batteries – a small Philips screwdriver needed – you can then attach the ‘tanks’ tracks and its dimensions swell a little. 22 tracks are supplied in various colours but you only need 20 to get the All Surface Vehicle ready. There is an on/off button on its side and once on it moves. Should you want it to go in the opposite direction then turn it over as per the instructions in the Quick Start Guide.
However once assembled and before you press the on/off you need a track.
There are a total of twelve solid plastic pieces but your track can be far larger as if only needs the track to guide it in a specific direction.
The track pieces are two straight pieces, two ramp pieces, two leg pieces to support the ramps, two funnel tracks and four turn tracks. The areas between these can be on different levels using things like books and other items. For the straight it could be carpet, floor or even your bed.
One last piece is called the Power Trekker and once on this the power from the tracks is transferred to the legs of the Trekker meaning it can move over the top of small items.
There are other bits like glow in the dark transfers but this is the set. Now the most important part will your designs work. How far can you increase the size and height before something causes a crash?
I would suggest that seven or eight would be an ideal age and not only can the child play but learn about what design is and how to create various courses using the pieces provided.
There are links on the second link below to various videos showing exactly what is possible. Your imagination is the limit of its ability.
