This starter kit consists of two units the main unit to be placed fairly close to your router is 15x8x5cm with the built in 13amp plug at the base, the top has two Gigabit Ethernet ports. The front has a 13amp plug face so other items can still be plugged in to the unit.
The second unit is slightly smaller at 13x6.5x5cm, the built in 13amp plug is a again at the base with a single Gigabit Ethernet port on the top and the front has a 13amp plug face so other items can still be plugged in to the unit.
Also in the box is an Ethernet lead and an Installation Guide which is in numerous languages with a diagram on the left page and the thing to do on the right page so most will be able to follow the nine steps from just the diagram.
Two things the main unit will need to be on the same ring main as the secondary unit and surge strips are a definite ‘no no’ as they disturb the signals.
On the 2.4GHz band you get up to 300Mbps and on the 5GHz up to 867Mbps. As both bands can be utilized at the same time that is why the box says 1200Mbps.
Four integrated antennas in the unit insure that Wi-Fi can be received/transmitted at the fastest possible speed. As an example a router on the ground floor can struggle to go up two floors so those in a normal house who have converted their loft could struggle but with these units Wi-Fi is still available for Smart Phones even in the eves.
The ability for Gigabit Powerline meeting and linking with Wi-Fi in the extremes is possible.
These devices originally gave you Ethernet from a point bordering/outside the Wi-Fi signal now you get Wi-Fi and Ethernet beyond the normal range and for those worried about signal leakage these signals can be encrypted.
Ethernet extenders used to demand a socket to themselves – not even a gang socket in some cases – now the signal is stronger and in fact uses all three wires to send and receive.
Should you need even more adapters then setting them up to add to an existing system should be just a single button press.
For those who need multiple Ethernet connections in the remote end then just connect a switch as you would at the router end to get satisfactory results. I am told that older - lower transmission speed – can even be incorporated into the system should they be required.
Some early powerline units placed the 13amp plug higher up the unit and thus made them unusable without an extension lead for anyone with shirting board power points.
