This is a new departure for Nero partially following that of others like Microsoft that were I think the first to produce a 365 version with Office.
Here I am looking at the Platinum version which is Nero 2020 in all but name. To be clear you will still be able to download any bug fixes but not any totally new parts.
Nero started – a long time ago – as a product to burn CD’s and DVD’s then it gradually added features.
This year Nero Start has a new front end that has four columns of four items in four bright easy to read colours. However some things have moved sections so they are all the same length.
Once everything was installed only twelve of the sixteen items were highlighted and the other four, Tune It Up, Wave Editor, Audials Music and Sound Trax still need to be downloaded.
By the time every App was downloaded just over 10GB of hard disc space was taken and I had not installed some extra templates etc. that are available.
Even though I had the latest code on a memory stick it still – like so many – insists on checking online for updates and the install is not that quick on my Intel i5 Windows 10 machine it was around 45 minutes till it was completed.
Another new feature this year is that it can only be used on a single PC at any one time so while you can – I am told – install it on a PC and a notebook it checks to see that it is not being used elsewhere. I assume this check can only take place while you are connected to the Internet.
Any item added will not show on the Nero Start menu until it has been closed and reopened.
So what is totally new from the 2019 version, the start menu now looks completely different and a lot neater.
As with all multi featured items there are going to be parts you do not use that often and for these the ‘Nero Know How’ gets you there and when it does not, there is always customer support.
Media Home now has vastly enhanced Face Recognition.
For those times when data needs to be moved around SecurDisc 4 which now also supports USB sticks.
New tools like PhotoSnap and Effects as well as Face beautiful and USBx copy.
So the choice is the 365 version which lasts a year at £49.99 or the version that never expires but you only get any bug fixes at £79.99.
