This is a great toy if you listen to the wireless and need to record. If you have not yet discovered Digital Audio Broadcasting read on.
If you are not aware of Digital Audio Broadcasting please visit http://www.worlddab.org/. Sorry to say that you need to be in the right country (e.g. UK) to benefit from this. CD quality wireless is a great step forward. (Remember am radio?)
Modular Technology do a DAB reciever in the form of a PCI card for your PC. This means no additional wiring etc if you already use your PC as a music system. After initial teething trouble I am getting great results (disclaimer: my ears are not what they were before I went to a few concerts).
This gadget gives you an OK GUI interface to tune into your favouriote DAB stations. Next time around there is scope for them to improve this as it's currently a little too clever for its own good. Usability is a black art so I'm not inclined to any more specific suggestions.
There is a facility to record to MP3 - very useful so you can still be sociable when your favourite shows are on. You would obviously want to delete these recordings after listening to them ;-)
Of course you need a good PC. I got best results with one that does not have a PCI display card. Hence far fewer stray signals that might get picked up by the reciever card. Initially I was using an on-motherboard sound card but, needless to say, switched to a proper Sound Blaster.
I am in a semi-rural area so reception was initially a problem. A roof aerial solved this after I also remembered what coax to use (the low-loss stuff also used for satellite aerials).
Happy listening!
