I am a fan of DAB radio and have reviewed several not just from Pure. However this unit is far more. A lot of people decry DAB saying FM is better, I am not going into this argument here but a lot of DAB stations are simply not available on FM.
The previous DAB unit I reviewed was the PocketDAB just before Christmas and this is considerably different in size and of course this is mains only. The main unit is 21x21x14cm and there are two external speakers each 10x21x21cm. All the casings are a mid colour wood effect, giving an extra depth to sound.
Those who immediately go to 'Bass Boost' will probably soon remove it as it will probably be to much. Certainly listening to my favourite type of relaxing music having any increase in bass was not to my liking and this certainly was probably much relief to my neighbours.
This unit has a sleep timer and alarm so it could even find a place in the bedroom. Tuning was quick and efficient something not always associated with these units. Up to 99 DAB and 99 FM stations may be preset.
Re-Vu is a technology that allows you to pause your listening - and even to rewind it - if interrupted by a phone or door caller. I think it was first introduced with 'The Bug' but it works well. With 'The Bug' it was only 5 minutes here it can be up to 40 minutes.
The CD player supports numerous modes apart from standard audio CD's and even supports CD-RW discs as well as MP3 CD's and will even show ID3 tags
The output is 22W RMS per channel and has separate bass and tone controls - apart from additional 'Bass Boost' - in fact the manual is probably a good read just to see all the extra functions it supports. For good measure the FM band supports RDS a feature often only found on the more expensive car radios.
This unit also supports connection of an auxiliary item such as a mini disc and this can be output through the unit.
The Legato is supplied with everything you may require including a 32 button remote control and Aerial leads. When looking at the array of sockets on the back it may be a surprise to see a USB socket this is so the unit can be 'firmware' upgraded to allow it to remain bang up to date.
At the bottom of the 'link' page there is a box to enter your post code and this will tell you likely stations available in your area together with probably reception.
There is a drawback and that is the price at a penny under £350 it is by no means cheap but the latest technology is never that.
