Japan Goes Jigsaw Style

Rather than the Japanese colour jigsaws called Nonograms sometimes appearing on these pages, these jigsaws are of the traditional format.

1001 Jigsaw World Tour Japan

For the next title in its 1001 Jigsaw series, 8 Floor Games has opted for its next source material to be based on Japan and the culture it can offer to puzzle solvers.  Following the pattern established in the previous title in the series, adjustments can be made to the music and sound effect levels plus a choice of three resolutions for displaying the different images displayed in photo album style.

Within your personal environment, you are presented with access to five books made up of a series of double pages displaying eight images.  Each of the different images will be accompanied by a tag indicating how many pieces make up its default size which can vary between 12 and 255.  There will also be an icon to show whether the puzzle's rotation feature has been activated or not to individual pieces.

Arrange across the bottom of each pair of double pages are tools to view trophies earned, change environment settings and modify the chosen image.  You are provided with three possible options when modifying an image.  Using a slider bar tool, you can adjust the number of pieces making up the puzzle, change the cut of the piece and select whether the rotation feature will be turned on or off.

Your choices will be implemented as the pieces are scattered around a work area with a second selection of tools taking their place across the base of the screen.  There will also be a storage pocket tucked away in the top left corner of the screen.  Individual or groups of pieces can be dragged around the work area using the left mouse button.  Individual pieces can be rotated through 90 degrees using the right mouse button as you put together the pieces.

As mentioned this work area comes with its own set of tools that can help with the creation of the image.  A copy of the image can be displayed and moved around the screen or positioned centrally as a ghost image onto which pieces can be placed.  If you prefer working without visual assistance, you can opt to start putting together the pieces by starting with border edges.  Once the border has been completed then the inner pieces will be returned automatically.  Other available tools include a sort feature, hint and a magnifier.  Completed images are not saved which means you can use the same image multiple times using various settings.

I downloaded my copy of this program from Gamehouse.com where it is priced at $9.99.  The game requires a 1.0 GHz processor with 512MB of RAM and 147MB of hard disk space running Windows 7 and later.
