Can you help a cat deal with pirates and smugglers when recuing an undercover investigator?

Catstown, once again, becomes the centre of action as Elephant Games returns to the feline world of the home for Knight Cats.  This latest episode is entitled Waves on the Water and it is available in Collector’s Edition format.  With this format you get a number of bonus items to enhance the main game play which can be tackled in a choice of Casual, Advanced, Hardcore or Custom difficulty level.

Continuing the role you took in the first episode of this series, you are cast as Shavran, the main guard for Catstown.  You are quickly called into action as pirates arrive in town and somebody fires an arrow through the window of your dwelling.  This gives you the opportunity to sort through your equipment and check out the tools available to you.

These tools are arranged across the bottom of the screen.  They consist of a Map which can be used to teleport between locations and a task tool to remind you of your current challenge.  You also get a centrally positioned Inventory which can be locked in place or left to disappear when not required.  Items stored within the Inventory accompanied by a plus sign will require some work before it can be used.  There are also shortcut icons for a Strategy Guide and a Hint feature in the shape of a cat’s paw.

While these tools are arranged across the base of the screen, your cat character will have access to one further tool that has a connection to a feline ability.  This tool is a Cats Eye.  It can be found towards the top left side of the screen.  This tool will only become available when you need to explore dark areas and make use of the cat’s night vision.

Your tour of duty, as a city guard, involves checking on the damage the pirate’s visit might have caused.  However you quickly discover than other issues will have a bearing on your time and ability as you will need to search for a missing undercover investigator.  This investigator is Nika Monroe who had been looking into incidents of smuggled goods.  As a result you will need to search locations, solve clues, find collectibles, create potions, connect certain characters to specific incidents and tackle the usual assortment of mini game puzzles and Hidden Object game play.

Mini game puzzles cover a variety of tasks.  You could be asked to blow a hole in a wall by aiming a canon at appropriate areas or hit a number of targets laid out in a scene.  Sometimes you will be asked to arrange sections of an image in their correct positions and arrange columns to allow an image to escape free.  Another task will involve selecting cards to win a game of chance.  Hidden Object game play will involve selecting the correct arrangement of stars, find sections of an image from triangular shaped patterns, find pairs of items and items from a scene that related to words in a story.

With well-drawn scenes enhanced with animated features, the game introduces you to a variety of characters.  These characters tend to move smoothly around the different scenes in a realistic way.  However some might be disappointed to discover that the voices used by such characters failed to show any feline influence.  I failed to detect even a single purr from any of the cat characters involved in this title.

Once the main game has been completed, you will gain access to various features such as a bonus chapter, replaying mini game puzzles and Hidden Object scenes plus an Expedition feature that will help assist you search for Collectibles and puzzle pieces missed when playing the main game.  Knight Cats – Waves on the Water can be downloaded from Gamehouse.com where it is priced at $19.99.  You could also get the product from Big Fish Games where it is priced at £16.12.  The game requires a 2.5 GHz with 1024MB of RAM with 1.00GB of hard disk space running Windows 7 and later.
