Swapping a Copy for Real

Continuing the Paranormal Files series, Elephant Games has released the latest episode in the search for the original version of Rick Rogers before they became involved in alternative universe and multiple versions of himself.

On returning to the multi-dimensional environment that houses the Paranormal Files, you can make adjustments to elements of the gaming environment inhabited by the game play of Counterpart.  Volume levels can be set for music, sound effects, environment and the dialogue delivered by voice actors.  You can also adjust the gamma level of brightness.  When playing the game you have a choice of casual, Advanced, Hardcore or Custom difficulty which give various rates of recharging for Hint/Skip features, the appearance of active zones and whether indications of tasks and collectibles will be shown on the map facility.

Not surprisingly the main view of the action will be overlaid with a standard array of available tools.  A Map tool will allow you to teleport between locations while also indicating where tasks are available and collectibles can be found.  Your current task, in case you forget it, will be displayed next.  A centrally positioned Inventory, which can be locked in positioned or set to disappear when not immediately required, will show items collected and mark those requiring some work before use with a plus sign.  There are also links to a Strategy Guide and the recharging Hint feature.

Having captured an alternative version of Rick, the Paranormal Agency team decide to see if they can swap their version of Rick with the original Rick.  Never afraid to ask for outside help, they hire the expertise of Anna Gray who is knowledgeable regarding alternative universes.  In order to attempt to bring about a swap of the two Ricks, the Paranormal team, along with the Alt-Rick, will need to visit the Alternative Universe that is home to the Alt-Rick.

Unlike the real universe, this Alternative Universe is in a state of disrepair as Black Magic has taken charge and the authorities are on the look-out for anybody with paranormal abilities.  Areas of desolation and more attractive locations are mixed together with ghostly spirit-like creatures seeming tracking any movement and monstrous figures making surprise attacks.  Fortunately help is on-hand as members of Alt-Rick's original team can provide some assistance in the form of tools to assist the Paranormal team.  As you move around the different areas of this alternative world, entering areas that often require a set sequence of actions to gain entry, you will encounter numerous challenges that can involve Hidden Object challenges and mini game puzzles as you create potions and unlock blocking structures.

Included among the different challenges, you will need to face 13 Hidden Object scenes and 13 mini game puzzles.  As usual the Hidden Object game play will be indicated by the appearance of an outbreak of sparkles.  You could be asked to match words with images spread over pages, match silhouettes with items in a scene or overlay cut-out shapes with parts of a scene.  Other tasks might include finding costumes for a disguise or following instruction to navigate a map layout.  Mini game puzzles might involve matching face-down cards, shooting a travelling stream of balls, guiding a ghost to its destination or arranging items in an auction depending upon their colour and type.

Despite being somewhat confusing as you try to manage original and Alt-Rick characters, is worth considering.  This title is available from Gamehouse.com where it is priced at $19.99 or you could download it from Big Fish Games where it is priced at £15.86.  The game requires a 2.5 GHz processor with 2048MB of RAM and 783MB of hard disk space running Windows 7 and later.
