Why buy a photo manipulation package when so many pieces of hardware come with one for free? In most cases these will be lite or SE versions that have restricted in some way or other use.

Roxio are perhaps best known for various CD creation packages and as
such along with Nero are the two big players in CD creation software.
Here in fact is a good example, most versions of CD Creator software
are bundled with CD burners, maybe it came with your PC or perhaps you
purchased a retail CD or DVD drive and you got the software with it. In
most cases this sort of software will have been crippled to work with
only that drive. This is of course fine till you upgrade your PC and
unless you build it yourself, you get the drive in favour at the time
and it may not have the same software.
Learn one package and you can learn another, however even if can do
all the same things it is likely it does them in another way. Roxio
Photosuite 7 Platinum does a range of things. Perhaps the big three are
Burn and Share, Edit and Create and Capture and Organize, I will come
to the extras later.
Burn and Share, not wanting to stand on the heels of other products
by the same company it can Burn only VCD thats Video CDs and to play
these all you need is a DVD player. So once you are happy with your
images burn them to VCD add effects and even music or voice over, your
images should then be safe for the life of the VCD.
Edit and Create, this to my mind is the gadget bit, first getting
rid of the bits you do not want, even such basics as red eye, but now
make the image better by removing the wrinkles and dare I say
blemishes. Next improve the brightness and saturation and that image
becomes half decent. If a range of photos need the same adjustments it
can handle it as one job.
Now perhaps the highlight Capture and Organise. I see a lot of
digital cameras and all come with some sort of software and in most
cases this is an improvement on Windows Explorer. However even on a
rapid machine most seem rather slow as displaying decent size
thumbnails. The first time I gave Photosuite 7 a directory to show
thumbnails it was almost instantaneous even though the number of images
went into three figures.
Perhaps the most interesting extra is the label creation software,
the most likely use for CDs and this little piece of software can
produce rather impressive results. The stated price of Roxio Photosuite
7 Platinum is £49.99, if you own version 4 or 5 then you can upgrade
direct from Roxio for £10 less. However www.dabs.com have the full package for £41.
