Emporia E5 Mini

For those who do not want a full size screen but still want to use everything that a modern Smart Phone has and the help that older people and those whom this is their first Smart Phone need this offering from Emporia may fit the bill.

The Emporia E5 Mini measures 13.5x6.5x.7cm and weighs 159 grams. This smaller size may suit those with smaller hands as a larger Smart Phone may be difficult to balance easily. Boot up once setup is complete is only 21 seconds so this might encourage people to turn it off at night.

An Emporia Smart Phone is slightly different to most in that it does not assume you know what you are doing, in fact it has an App called Emporia Coach that takes you though all the basics including how to use other Apps like 'What's App' and 'Zoom' when used in a subsequent Coach session of a holiday to France.

Instead of all the Apps being shown as icons here they are named to make it easier to use and they are in alphabetical order. This phone makes it easy for those with limited hearing or sight to view or hear, other phones may have similar features but they tend to be hidden away.

Going around the outside has the volume control rocker and below that the red on/off button. The base has a microphone. The left side is clear. The top has USB 'C' for charging and a headphone socket. The back near the top has three cameras and a flash is a slightly raised box of four below this another box which contains an emergency button that will circle through up to five family and friends/neighbours until an answer is received.

Unusually these days the phones back is removable which means should the battery fail it is easily replaced, you also need to remove the back to insert your SIM and any micro SD card you might use. There is a second back in the box if you prefer not to have the emergency button showing.

It has 64GB of memory and runs Android 13,

This is an ideal first phone and with the smaller 5inch screen is easy to hold. At the time of publication the Emporia E5 Mini is available from Amazon priced at £200. All you now need is a SIM and possible a micro SD card.
