Normally the only books I read are manuals, but I was sent this to review so I set aside time to read a few pages and was hooked by now she was kept as a child, the doctor who performed the operation had a large house in the country with an even bigger garden and she had a range of people to look after her as the doctor only visited around every three weeks.

I say looked after perhaps 'kept her prisoner' was a better way of putting it as the original man and women seemed worried she would run away and when outside she was kept on a rope all very strange but maybe in Sweden it is not, as this book was translated from Swedish.

With the aid of books and lessons from the doctor when he is there she teaches herself to read and write and by the age of nine is able to write exactly the same style as the doctor. One of the helpers taught her to play the piano and not only play but also to read music and should she make a mistake when reading a new piece of music she was punished.

I will not tell you more the things I have mentioned occur in the first third of this 220 page paper back book which is called Caesaria written by Hanna Nordenhok and translated into English by Saskia Vogel, on sale from October 24th 2024 for £10.95 or maybe less.
