Small and Feature Rich

Although not the smallest mobile phone I have seen, the Siemens SL65 certainly packs plenty of functionality into its small frame. This is a mobile phone that combines high-speed GPRS, WAP and tri-band technology with integrated camera features and business applications. Available in either ivory (white and silver) or ebony (black and silver), the SL65 measures 90.2 x 47.6 x 20.9mm (L x W x H) and weighs just 99g. Even when you extend the slider top portion of the phone, its length only increases to 120mm.
Standard call, end and soft keys decorate the front of the unit just beneath the high-resolution 65,000 colour display. An internet access button and mini-joystick control for navigation purposes, selecting and activating various functions and applications are also present. Side mounted volume adjustment, dictation key and an infrared interface complete the controls although a couple of the keys on the main keypad can also be used in certain circumstances.
Switching on the phone does take a little getting use to as it requires an extra confirmation key press before it actual becomes active. This feature is meant to prevent any accidental switching on of the phone when it is knocked against something. You also have the ability to set the phone to switch off at a pre-defined time each day possible to avoid unwanted calls during the evenings.
The built-in VGA camera can capture still images, with a maximum resolution of 640 x 480, and video clips (128 x 90) at 8 frames per second. The captured content can then be send via MMS or e-mail. A 5X digital zoom feature is available but this could affect image resolution when it is implemented.
You are given a choice of Addressbook or Phonebook for keeping information about your contacts. The Addressbook can store up to 1000 entries. Each one can contain telephone and fax numbers plus address details and pictures. The Phonebook is SIM based. It limits you to a single number per entry. You can also include a name and group category details. Information can be copied from the Phonebook to the Addressbook.
When entering text you can opt to use T9 functionality or not as the case may be. Various profiles can be set up for MMS and SMS services. These profiles cover sending properties. Other profiles can be created to deal with different environments such as car use, headset and noisy places. User interface themes, display and ring tones can all be customised to suit your own tastes. Numerous logos, backgrounds and 40-chord polyphonic ring tones are included and more can be downloaded.
An organiser feature is available and consists of various elements. A calendar, with monthly, weekly or daily views, can be used to enter appointments. It can also be used to create To Do lists and notes plus record short voice memos. Other features available include an alarm clock, stopwatch, sound recorder as distinct from the memo recorder, calculator, unit converter and file management capabilities for organising your pictures and videos in a My Stuff section.
As yet I have no information regarding pay-as-you-go pricing for this phone. However it is expected to be available for around £100 with a contract. This phone is more suited to the power-user rather than occasional users.
