The Arlo Pro4 Spotlight Camera measures 7x4.5x8cm, the last figure the depth is to the back of the camera the mount can add around another 4cm to the depth.
Like so many things today it is linked to your phone and indeed the setup of the unit is on your phone in the Arlo App.
The camera comes with its solid battery in the box, you need to open the camera to insert the camera and once in it needs charging and a short USB lead is provided for this job it has a proprietary magnetic connection so don’t lose it.
Once charged its deciding where to mount it, screws are provided to fit onto the mount and then the cameras angle fits into the mount again with magnetic connection.
Try to avoid it pointing towards either the rising or setting sun as this can affect the clarity of its videos.
Now onto the most contentious thing with a camera do you want the person to know they have been seen?
If you use the spotlight or indeed the siren they will certainly know.
If they are turned off you can still get clear video on all but the darkest night and while the camera is capturing images then a red LED flashes on the face of the camera.
You decide exactly what you want to capture there are a whole range of choices which include all movements and if there are trees and bushes in the area you have mapped it to capture the wind could cause false positives.
It can detect animals and I have a lot of cats or foxes that pass through my garden. You can set it up to just capture humans and I did that and it seems to do so well.
There are so many options in the App that allow you to trim it to just the alerts you want.
It comes with 90 days of alerts which can be just to your phone or you can set it to alert either a neighbour or friend which is great if you are away.
After the 90 days the alerts are chargeable and there several plans available. All images can be stored for up to 30 days.
Video is captured at 2K and these can be zoomed to 12x. The camera has a 160 degree field of view. It can interact with Alexa, Google and Apple Home Kit.
The images it captures are clear and sharp and there is an option to have the siren sound automatically or you can trigger it manually.
My one concern is that you have to remove the camera to recharge the battery so while it’s easy to fit you need the ability to climb up to retrieve it for charging however the battery is stated to last six months between charges. They also do a three camera option that reduces the per camera price by £100.
At the time of publication the Arlo Pro4 Spotlight Camera is available from Amazon for £218.06 in either black of white.
