Soda syphons have been around for well over 100 years; quite by chance I saw an item on them recently with some very early units on show. They were very popular in pubs before and after the Second World War. Then the refillable sort became popular with the top removable to refill with water and a small gas canister to carbonate it.

This offering from My Soda works differently having a large gas canister as part of the unit so you can get maybe 60litres or more of carbonated water.
It is 40cm tall 8.5cm wide and 20cm deep. It comes with a 60litre canister of CO2 which fits into the underside of the unit.
The front of the unit is a screw in bottle that you fill up to a mark with cold water – I was told if you use water that has been chilled you use less CO2 – once the process is completed you have a litre of fresh carbonated water ready to dispense into your drinks.
While the casing does not look like wood it is made from ‘almost 100% wood bases biocomposite’ mine was a grey colour but it is available in a choice of five colours on their site. I am told that the CO2 cylinder is also easily refillable although no details were immediately available. When I asked the price of cylinders I was told just over £20.
Should you be planning a party they also sell extra bottles that would allow you to have several made up ready.
The carbonated water was pleasant to drink but I assume that depends a lot on the quality of the tap water in your area, it may sound strange to say but if you do not like the taste of your tap water the carbonization of it will probably not help.
This was easy to use and should you use a good amount of carbonated water should pay for itself over time.
The five available colours from the site below are Pink, Black, Grey, Pigeon and White.
MySoda Woody is available from the link below for £69.99.
