WordPerfect Office X3 Home Edition

Image of author
Far cheaper than the full product but with most of the functionality and it even has extras – aimed at the Home user - that the main product does not have.

The two main components are WordPerfect and Quattro that's two thirds of WordPerfect Office X3. However far from that being that you also get a range of other items some full packages and some limited time offerings.

These two items are the full products as found in the main package WordPerfect Office X3 the only main missing component is Word Perfect Presentations. Both are labelled Home Editions and while there may be some small changes they are minor and unlikely to be missed by anyone in the Home or small business environment.

You do get some extras - it would not be a Corel product without extras - these start with ?Office Ready' templates. A total of 85 different templates to cover almost all financial likelihoods. Not satisfied with that there are 50 more for labelled Home and School essentials. Corel has finally grasped that you need to get children using the product. In years gone by everyone used WordPerfect in the office and while the typewriter was still in use at school everyone learned WordPerfect as that would be required in the wide world. In various scenarios WordPerfect was neglected and that young upstart William Gates leapt in with both feet and said thank you very much now Microsoft Word is just as much the market leader as WordPerfect was.

Not finished yet Corel add Photo Album 6 a perfectly respectable photo manipulation and storage device and a version of Pinnacle Studio SE for those who are into video editing as schools now feel multimedia is king. Just in case you are not reeling from overload yet another Pinnacle product Instant CD/DVD V8 LE is included as all those photos and videos need a lot of space.

The installation comes from three CD's with the WordPerfect modules on CD 1 apart from the templates, CD 2 has the extras mentioned above along with a limited time version of Norton Internet Security that you will then spend a good time updating to the latest version. To install everything will probably require around 2GB of hard disc space, this will not include CD3. CD 3 contains some very useful training videos that help the novice and even the slightly more further forward user to get into the guts of WordPerfect and Quattro.

As with the full version this will only run on Windows 2000 or Windows XP and while it is stated to run in 128MB (256MB recommended) I doubt there are many PC's around running XP or 2000 with that little RAM.

Tucked away in the small print are the extra ?extras' that Corel always seem to wish to supply 900 fonts, 5,000 clipart images and 100 photos, did you think a Corel product would ever come without them?

Two thirds of the full package for a small percentage of the price even should you pay close to the ?full price' this is excellent value for a spreadsheet and word processor with the all important ability to run in Word and Excel modes.

Doing my Internet searches found it at as little as £62.39 inc delivery from the link below.
