Ipod Part 2

Image of author
The second installment relating to the Apple Ipod...

If you have read PArt 1 you will know that i had a Firewire card to install in order to use the Ipod.....installing the card couldn't have been easier. Plug and play with Xp..very easy. Plugged in the docking station via the firewire lead and plugged the Ipod into the station.

First bit of good news was that it charges the Ipod from the docking station. having read the manual this seemed not to be the case but thankfully was.

Installed the itunes software and scanned my hard disk automatically for compatible music. One click later and the ipod had some tunes on it! The firewire connector is incredible for uploading music - less than 10 seconds for an entire album to be copied...

Playing back through the Ipod is great - good quality for a small device and headphones (earbud style) supplied are comfortable and do not move! Easy to skip tracks and find tracks using the track wheel..i've added around 300 tracks to the Ipod and it is so easy to use. Track management is via itunes and can be automatic i.e. it synchs with the desktop with the desktop being king. Or manually which means that you select from the desktop what you want to do and delete directly from the Ipod. I have to use the manual process as at this point i cannot figure out how to move music files from the Ipod to the desktop and as my PC does not have huge amounts of memory i need to keep the desktop fairly light in terms of music...

That is really the only drawback that i have encountered technically and even that is not insurmountable just need to have plenty of CDR's to burn any music once copied to the Ipod before deleting from the PC.

So in short this is an incredibly high impact device (witness drooling techies in here) that works fantastically well. Uploading is simple and quick, playback is good quality and the device is excellent in design and size...the other thing to mention is that there are so many extras that santa will not be bringing me socks this year, more likely a carry case, usb lead, wireless remote, FM transmitter, microphone, extra battery pack....who am i kidding it'll be pesky socks !
