Knight Cats - Leaves in the Road is a Hidden Object Adventure game that is available in Collector's Edition format.  The usual set of adjustment options can be applied when playing this game.  Various volume levels, including voice used by the cat characters, can be adjusted, with the game being viewed in full and/or wide screen mode using an adjustable gamma setting.  Four levels of difficulty are available as you select from Casual, Detective, Super and Custom giving different speed recharging features and information being provided.

The game is set in a world where Cats are the dominate species and plans are put in motion to remove the Governor of Catstown, a vital hub of this world's well-being.  Recently residents of Catstown have started to disappear.  When one of these residents happen to be Lucy, the niece of the Governor, you are called into action.  This is your introduction to Shavan, a member of the town's vigilant guards, who is both inventive and courageous.

Aiding Shavan will be a fairly standard arrangement of tools running across the bottom of the various scenes making up this environment.  Positioned centrally is an Inventory which can be locked in place or left to disappear when not immediately required.  Items stored in the Inventory featuring a plus symbol will require some work before it can be used.  To the left of the Inventory are Map and Task icons while the right side holds Strategy Guide and Hint features.  The paw holding the Hint icon will move to indicate when the Hint is fully charged after each use.

As cats do possess an ability for enhanced night vision, an additional tool is provided to duplicate this feature.  Located in the top left corner of the screen is an eye symbol.  When encountering a dark area, this symbol will be highlighted.  It can then be used to see items within the dark and make use of any that are required.

In your role as Shavan you will be assigned the task of searching for evidence that could help with finding Lucy.  This initial investigation, as with the rest of the game, will be conducted in scenes that have a picture book look about them and feature characters that mimic the familiar motion and almost gliding style of movement adopted by members of the cat family.  Even martens, encountered latter in the game in their role as baddies, move smoothly about the landscape.

Having found Lucy, who was in the Dark Forest after being attacked by martens, you then  discover evidence regarding an attack on Catstown.  From time-to-time, a ball of wool will be provided to amuse Shavan.  As part of the investigation you will need to complete mini game puzzles that involve tasks such as making potions by following instructions, recreate a scene and arrange stones in their correct positions.  You will also have to finish a map by painting by numbers and defeat an enemy in a sword battle.  There are also a number of Hidden Object scenes which are indicated by an outbreak of sparkles.  Sometimes the required list of words will be in text format, shown as silhouettes, images or as a pattern.

Once you have successfully completed the main game you then gain access to a bonus games and visit a Secret Room to put together the pieces of a jigsaw found during the game.  While visually impressive, I felt the story content lacked a little with regards the plot.  I downloaded my copy of the game from Gamehouse.com where it is priced at $19.99.  You can also download the game from Big Fish Games priced at £15.80.  The game requires a 2.5 GHz processor with 1024MB of RAM and 1.10GB of hard disk space running Windows 7 and later.
