Time Manipulation Threat

Join Amanda and Charlie as they try to stop time being distorted to suit the plans of others.

e-Funsoft has added to its Amanda's Magic Book series.  This latest addition to this popular Match 3 series of offerings is entitled The Riftwalkers.  As usual the game is based around the activities of sensible Amanda and her close friend Charlie who has developed a capacity for causing trouble where ever he went.

This adventure begins as the two friends visit a local library.  While hardly likely to be the location you might expect to find Charlie, Amanda is always keen to learn more on her visits.  She quickly encounters a mysterious old woman who gives her a pocket watch which turns out to be enchanted.  The pocket watch opens a portal which then whisks the two friends to strange locations and times of long ago where they discover a character named Drako who was working on altering the fabric of time to achieve his aims by distorting history.

In order to help combat Drako's plans, you will need to assist Amanda and Charlie by playing through more than 70 levels of Match 3 action presented in e-Funsoft's usual manner.  Each level is based around a centrally positioned grid filled with a various embellished tiles and a mixture of blockages.  Generally the grids are well presented although I did find that the use of cobwebs over some tiles was sometimes difficult to detect.  The grid is sandwiched between available power-up tools on the left and details of a challenge, made up of the type and number of specific tiles that need to be removed, to complete the level.

Removing tiles from the grid is generally achieved by swapping two adjacent tiles to create a group of 3 or more similar tiles.  The group then disappears and is replaced by more tiles falling downwards.  In some cases this can cause a cascading effect so more groups are created and then removed.  You can also use the supplied power-up tools to remove specific individual or groups of tiles.  While the power-ups are only replenished at the start of each level, you do have the capability to create additional power-ups in the form of a bomb by creating groups that contain five or more tiles.  These bombs can be manipulated into a position to cause the required damage.

The grids used in this game also contain a couple of features found in other e-Funsoft titles.  Some tiles will be endowed with the ability to cycle through different embellishments.  By select such a tile at the appropriate moment, it can assist create a required group.  Some grids will contain a tile or tiles classified as artifacts.  These tiles, which when present will be included as part of the challenge, can only be removed by creating a pathway beneath them so they fall to the base of the grid for collection.

Completed levels will bring the reward of stars that can be used to upgrade and advanced the story line.  These upgrades will be accompanied by a static scene as character deliver dialogue that is hardly world shattering.  During these scenes you get to meet characters such as Leonardo, Cleopatra, Aristotle, Plato, Einstein and King Cyrus.

You will need to complete the five chapters of this Match 3 game to discover how Amanda and Charlie deal with the threat posed by Drako.  I downloaded my copy of this game from Gamehouse.com where it is priced at $9.99.  You can also download it from Big Fish Games priced at £7.61.  The game requires a 1.5 GHz processor with 1024MB of RAM and 194MB of hard disk space running Windows 7 and later.
