Wilde for Animals

Can you put your detective skills to the test and discover who is causing problems at the Zoo?

Do you remember Ace Ventura?  He was the Pet Detective of the cinematic world as played by Jim Carrey in a couple of movies.  Now you can take on a similar role by becoming Artemis Wilde who has recently been appointed Zoo Detective and the lead character in Elephant Game's title of Wilde Investigations - The Zoo Kerfuffle.  Classified as a Hidden Object Adventure, this game is available in Collector's Edition format with a number of bonus items to supplement the main game.

Elephant Game's usual collection of settings is available for customising the playing environment facing you in this title.  Volume levels can be adjusted, image size selected along with the use of special effects plus select from a choice of Casual, Advanced, Hardcore or Custom difficulty before you take on the role of a person with the ability to communicate with animals and certain detective skills.

Elephant Games has opted to use a number of different approached to the manner in which the game flows and presents its content.  Rather than the normal type of linking cut-scenes, this game uses a series of still images presented in picture book style.  Mouse clicks will be required to progress through the sequence as you explore the zoo.

Often the game use multi-layered Hidden Object scenes when certain items do not appear until trigger instances have occurred.  This layered approach often involves the appearance of handprints and footprints (maybe paw-prints would be a better choice) which do not appear until other tasks have been completed.  I found it took some practice to get use to this layered approach.

When dealing with Hidden Object game play, as you search scenes, you will need to make use of the different formats used to display the required items.  The list could involve text indicating a single item or a group of a particular type, silhouettes or small parts of the scene.  In some cases, actual work will be required on the required item before it can be selected.  With such instances, the item might use a different colour or be accompanied by a cog wheel.  This extra work could require the selection of another item such as a poster displaying the item.

Unlike most other titles relying on Hidden Object game play, Zoo Kerfuffle allocates its rewards depending upon your performance.  The fewer mistakes made during Hidden Object session and the faster you complete one of its mini game tasks will result in receiving a gold, silver or bronze paw which can be used towards purchasing items from the in-game shop to assist your work.

The game is spread over four levels or chapters with each one featuring a variety of tasks.  Once the current task is completed you will be given the option to retry the task to improve your performance, continue on your way or visit the shop.  Wilde Investigation - The Zoo Kerfuffle takes a little getting use to but generally it is worth the effort.  This title can be downloaded from Gamehouse.com where it is priced at $19.99.  It is also available from Big Fish Games priced at £15.48.  The game requires a 2.0 GHz processor with 2048MB of RAM and 1.15GB of hard disk space running Windows 7 and later.
