Push Me or Pull Me

Laptops might be getting lighter but can still weigh you down. How about letting the floor take the strain?

Adding to its portfolio of shoulder and rucksack styles of laptop cases, APC has introduced a roller-case as part of its Power Notebook Case range. This particular roller-case model with a capacity of 1900 cc is made of heavy-duty ballistic nylon material, measure 41 x 34 x 21cm (L x H x D) and has been designed to make transporting it easy. Not only do you get the standard handle grip and non-slip shoulder strap but the feature that gives the case its name.

On the base of the case is a pair of moulded plastic wheels while inside is a pull-out telescopic trolley handle that can extend through its own zipped exit to a height of 65cm from the top of the case. A press-button on the actual handle acts as a locking device and makes it easy to expand and retract this feature. A pair of moulded plastic feet opposite the wheels ensures a level base when this roller-case is stationary.

As with its other cases, the roller-case version consists of three main compartments that contain various pouches of different sizes; restraining straps; and one pouch that is removable. Let’s deal with this latter item first.

Sometimes you do not need all the facilities of the complete roller-case. In fact all you might need is a basic slip case for transporting a laptop without any extras or may be you just want to keep the laptop close while the rest of the roller-case is stored with the rest of your luggage on a train or plane journey. When this is the situation, all you need to do is to remove and use this padded pouch with the laptop secure inside. It is large enough for most laptops and has handles and a zip. If not being used for this purpose then the pouch can hold other items while the laptop is held secure by straps in the main case.

Located in the same compartment as the trolley handle, you will find a couple of zipped elongated pouches and two dividers for keeping papers and magazines separated. The final compartment contains a plethora of pouches designed for specific purposes. There are pouches for various mobile devices that we seem not able to live without; pens and business cards; plus a removable spill-proof pouch for holding personal belongings. This compartment also has an opening through which you can feed a power lead to recharge the laptop while it is still in the case.

Unlike the APC TravelPower range, this case does not come with various laptop and power adaptors. According to my source, this decision was taken after consultation with the retail trade who wished to sell these adapters as an add-on rather than bundled option. As a result APC has been able to price this product more aggressively at £69.99.

For those who travel a great deal, this laptop case would be ideal. It will keep a range of electronic devices secure without weighing you down too much.
