Cosset Your Laptop

A bag is a bag but your laptop deserves some consideration when you choose what will house it on your travels.

Having spent a sizeable chunk of your disposable income on a laptop, do you intend it to be used as a desktop replacement unit or as your computing companion when on the move? If the case is the latter then you really need to consider how best to transport the laptop while keeping it safe from damage. One company that concentrates all its efforts at providing solutions aimed at solving this problem is tech air.

With ten years experience in making computer bags, tech air has produced a range of bags that come with a lifetime warranty. All the company’s recent offerings take advantage of TechAir Protection Technology. Developed by the company, this patented technology makes use of pressurised air cells to provide a cushioning effect that is aimed at alleviating possible damage that could be caused by accidental knocks and bumps.

As an additional form of protection, tech air bags come with i-TRAK. This is a world-wide tracking system that can prove invaluable if your laptop and bag does go missing. Stitched into each tech air product is a label with a unique security code. By registering this code with tech air, it should improve the chances of getting your kit back once its loss has been reported. However, wearing my cynical hat, I have my doubts as to how successful the i-TRAK initiative would be in certain situations. As a result I am not about to put the system to the test my leaving my tech air encased laptop lying around in public areas.

One of the new bags to appear from tech air has the model number 5105. This product belongs to the company’s Series 5 range and comes with 12 months i-TRAK support. Constructed from high grade nylon, this black bag combines the two extendible-handle / shoulder strap approach with the practical backpack style of straps. Whichever method of carrying you prefer, there is the benefit from a degree of padding to help ease the strain.

Designed to hold laptops up to 15.4 inch, the 5105 has three zipped compartments. As well as the previously mentioned TechAir Protection Technology, this bag has an Active Sleeve feature. This is a built-in padded, adjustable pouch into which the laptop nestles and is held firmly in place by a restraining strap.

Tucked away in another compartment is what tech air refers to as an Organiser Skinn. Really it is a removable pouch for holding all those useful accessories that we would be lost without. It has separate sections for a mobile phone, CD player, pens, credit cards and documents. There is also a similar selection of fixed pouches in the third compartment. A couple of side pouches complete this bag’s list of storage facilities.

Measuring 460 x 345 x 105mm (the Active Sleeve section can be adjusted between 339 – 369, 293 x 51mm) and weighing 2110g, the 5105 certainly looks the part and provides a range of carrying options within a secure, protective casing. With its price point of £59.99, the 5105 might not be the cheapest around but does provide plenty of protection with different carrying options.
