Adding to its collection of puzzle software game play, Tiny Little Lion has released Stars & Stripes Subgames.  As its title might suggest, this offering is formed from various kinds of puzzles with a strong American influences.  This title is available in Collector's Edition format which adds various music and wallpaper elements to the main gaming action.

Operating within a dual menu interface, you are presented with a choice of selecting from a list of 16 different puzzle types.  This list will cover puzzle types that feature Collage, Crossword, Cycle, Difference, Jigsaw, Letter Swap, Match, Memory, Paint, Rotate, Shape-tris, Slider. Swap, Swap &Rotate, Word Guess and Word Search.  As you make your choice of type, you will be offered an appropriate choice of Subject matters from the categories that make up the product.  You can then a make a further choice by deciding which particular subject matter category to provide the source material for the actual puzzle.

Giving you plenty of choice with regards the choice of categories, the product covers 135 different options.  These categories  deal with subjects such as American areas, cities, Presidents, military leaders and the country's States.  Other categories featured in this game include tourist attractions, food, animals, sports, historical events, quotes and achievements.

When appropriate, a puzzle will be presented with brief instructions that can be recalled if necessary when a problem occurs.  You are also provided with a recharging Hint feature that is represented by a Star icon rather than something a little bit more obvious.  When selected the Hint feature will often respond with a possible next move to continue.

Completed puzzles will be indicated by a ticked box but this should not deter you from returning to it at a later time.  Individual puzzles can be reused even with the same choice of category.  As long as the choices of puzzle and category are listed on the appropriate menu then you can mix and match to your heart's content.

With 16 puzzle types and 135 different categories sources, this title has plenty to offer the compulsive puzzle solver.  However I was rather disappointed with the Collector's Edition aspect of this title as it only offers some additional limited content.  The ability to play 12 different pieces of background music and view 20 different wallpaper scenes hardly justifies the extra cost.

I downloaded my copy of the title from Gamehouse.com where it is priced at $19.99.  The game is also available from Big Fish Games priced at £15.69.  The game requires a 2.0 GHz processor with 4096MB of RAM and 1.66GB of hard disk space running Windows 7 and later.
