This is a large and heavy multi-function unit suitable for an office environment as it has the ability to set up all sorts of restrictions with times and users so you do not end up printing magazines for whatever local group. This is a colour laser All In One unit that comes with starter cartridges pre-installed. It is certainly a two person move at 35kilos.

The Canon i-SENSYS MF742Cdw measures 46cm deep 43cm from side to side and 48cm tall, these are all maximum figures and all leads used are contained within this footprint including the paper out tray, only if you use the second manual paper feed do these figures get exceeded and as the manual feed is a drop down to 45 degrees from the centre front of the unit this adds 15cm to the depth.
You can use this via Wi-Fi or Ethernet or if required USB.
Installation is from a CD or via the Internet.
I used this on Windows and once connected it connected plug and play print drivers automatically, the scan driver must come from you – on the CD - but it can scan to USB to the port on the front of the unit so that could work.
There is an 11x7cm touch screen that can to horizontal – within the footprint – or lowered from the top by up to 45 degrees.
This controls the actions on the unit that is touch operated, I found this was less than reactive to my old fingers with me often needing to press several times to get my selection accepted, however as I have the same problems with point of sale units in supermarkets its probably me.
The display shows eight icons in two lines of four, Copy, Scan, USB Print, Secure Print, Menu, Address Book, Application Library and Paper Settings, press the > button to get eight mode, Mobile Portal, Home Screen, Update Firmware, ID Card Copy, Passport Copy, Operations Guide, Consumables Information and Language then > once more for Copy (Bleed Reduce), Scan to Preset, Name and Scan, Print Template, Standby Image, Copy (Eco), ID Card Copy and Copy (Enhance Text).
Below the window are three touch buttons a half moon (Sleep), Home and Problem there is also a volume control as yes it can talk. Finally on the bottom/front edge are two LED’s green flashing while working and orange choice required. Each of the settings has choices so almost everything can be done standing at the unit.
Print speeds are around 25PPM a little less when you print duplex and scanning or copying is almost as fast.
Warm up time is only around 15 seconds. First page out is in less than ten seconds.
Margins can be as little as 5mm top and bottom and 10mm side to side.
600x600 copy and scan modes natively. I see that around 4000 pages a month is the recommended usage with 50000 the maximum.
Most of my use was Ethernet but I did try USB on a notebook and to be sure I removed Internet connectivity from the Notebook. To scan in this way the scan driver needs to downloaded to the machine or you would need to use a USB stick.
