The major step they made last year was the vastly improved camera using Leica dual lens technology to give you stunning images.
It is 15.5x7.5x.7cm and weighs 180grams.
Thin, smart, tough and well built, it even comes with silicon back and side cover to protect from the odd drop.
Silver grey front and sides and a ‘mocha’ brown back go to make up the smart look. It is as thin as any phone I have seen, it feels solid and there is certainly no flexibility and is nice to hold and use.
The right side has the volume up/down rocker and the on/off button. The base has the USB ‘C’ connection for charging or connection of an OTG device, my 64GB Kingston offering worked correctly other larger units may also work but I do not have any larger ones. The left side has entry point for SIM. The top has an excellent pin hole microphone. Finally the back has the twin lens of the excellent Leica camera that do protrude slightly as well as the LED flash and below this the finger print reader. The one minus point is there is no 3.5mm socket for headphones, so you will need a Bluetooth listening solution.
While the back is shiny it does seem to avoid noticeable finger prints. The face has a speaker above the screen surely a better place than the back chosen by so many. Under normal use the fingerprints do not show on the screen and as the screen surround is miniscule so marks are not noticeable there either.
The viewable screen is 6.9x13.7cm which gives the notional diagonal imperial measurement of 6inches.
A three second push on the on/off button produces a fourteen second boot, shutdown is eleven seconds but unlike most phones the screen does not blank until shutdown is completed.
The front screen shows two lines of five icons towards the base, above this the Google bar that you can type or speak to. At the top a small bar of icons and below this a larger digital clock with smaller date line underneath and to the right of the weather in your location. Flip left and you get up to thirty new icons with the second (lower) line from the front screen which are Phone, Contacts, Email, Chrome and Camera.
This unit comes with Kirin 970 AI processor stated to give faster, stronger and seamless experience. It has a 4000mAh battery that for most will give at least two days of use between charges.
The camera has a 20MP monochrome lens and a 12MP RGB offering the lens is f/1.6 aperture.
A lot more details about this excellent camera on the second link at the end.
