With this next title from the Suricate Software catalogue, the company has combined the Solitaire game play, taking place in an underwater environment, with scene building elements and bonus puzzle action. Entitled Jewel Match Solitaire Winterscapes 2 Collector's Edition, this product allows for several adjustments to be made to the playing environment.
Settings can be applied to the audio levels for music, sound effects and ambient plus the intensity at which snow falls during certain scenes. The game can be viewed in full screen mode with a custom cursor and features such as a tutorial, info and hints plus a choice of playing the game in relaxed, normal, timed or hard mode. You can also select the pattern used for the card backs and the colour of reward gems used during the game.
Forming the central basis of this game is a series of Solitaire levels that are laid out in a winding path of stepping stones. As you travel along this route in sequence, you will be faced with a standard version of Solitaire as you remove cards that are on-higher or one-lower than the current card. Adding complications to the task will be features that include cards overlaid by elements such as ice, padlock, ribbon, seals, chain and vines. In order to clear such cards, prior to their actual removal, you will need to cleanse them by pairing them with items such as a key, scissors, sickle, matching suit, hammer or whatever is appropriate.
During each of the 1000 levels of Solitaire game play you have the opportunity to earn gems and coins. The gens can be used to purchase upgrades in the form of additional elements to supplement the current scene. Coins, on the other hand, can be spent in the game shop to stock up on items such as wild card and jokers to help complete a particularly difficult level.
Every so often your journey through the levels will be interrupted by one of the additional challenges featured in the game. These challenges could involve an increased number of cards to clear, a layout that spreads over more than a single screen or a game where cards need to be removed in pairs that match in value. There are also bonus levels where you need to play a game of Aunt Sally, Mah-jong or a Quest mode made up of three separate tasks that can bring more rewards for achieving success.
Earlier I mentioned using the gems to purchase upgrades. With this feature you start with the default Winterscapes Palace as elements are added in exchange for gems. Once this scene has been completed then you move on to other scenes. These include views entitled Firvalley Castle, Harpdale Cottage and Ivy Grove Manor.
As this title is available in CE format, completing the main game of Solitaire levels will open access to various extra items. There are 15 bonus Challenge levels, 15 bonus Supersize (covering more than one screen), 15 bonus Match 2 levels, 15 bonus Sliding levels, 15 bonus Mah-jong levels and 4 bonus Solitaire variants. You also gain access to extra card back patterns, wallpaper and trophies.
Visually impressive and featuring a vast array of game playing action, this title is available from Gamehouse.com where it is priced at $19.99 or Big Fish GAMES AT £15.76. The game requires a 1.2 GHz processor with 512MB of RAM running Windows 7 and later.
