click image to enlargeThe microphone itself is round and 13.5cm long. It fits into a fitment that has an 8cm round mesh fitment to avoid breath or worse hitting the microphone. Behind this two 3x3 rubber strips and you slide the microphone through one and 4cm later the second this gives a tight hold to the microphone but stops any vibrations from whatever it is resting upon. The base of this fitment has a tripod screw and an 11cm long tripod is supplied.
While this fitment has a look of something home-made it is very effective and while doing my tests I deliberately knocked the desk which would normally create a sound heard through the microphone but even though I repeated it several times all you heard was my voice on the recording.
The cable supplied that fits into the rear end of the microphone is USB ‘C’ to USB, I am a little surprised that not even a USB to USB ‘C’ adapter is supplied for those without USB on their Tablets with some models now supplied with USB ‘C’ only.
The USB to USB ‘C’ cable is 1.8 metres long which is plenty even for those who only have USB ports on the rear of a Desktop machine.
Sound Quality was excellent and while the fitment looks unusual it works extremely well and all that really matters is what is heard. So your gaming experience is the best that it can be, or your zoom call is heard clearly.
I couldn’t find instructions in the box but the illustration on the outside of the box showed how it should be assembled.
At the time of publication the Velica USB Gaming Microphone is available from Amazon for £49.99.
