Zen Air Dot

While headphones both over and on ear have their place there are also times when what you need are ear buds and this latest offering from Creative come in a case that is only the size of a medium sized pebble.

The case is 5x4.5x2cm and weighs only 33 grams with the buds inside. Unlike all earbuds I have previously seen there are no gels so the bud itself fits into the ear, they are 1.5cm from top to bottom and less than 1cm wide at the base, there is a 2cm long arm at the base that balances what is in your ear without excessive plugging.

The back of the case has a USB ‘C’ socket and a short USB to USB ‘C’ cable is supplied to let you charge your buds.

Linking to my phone took me less than a minute turn on Bluetooth and with the case open wait until Zen Air Dot appears in a list and click on it, that’s it.

A full charge to the earbuds gives you seven hours of play or call time. The pebble can give up to a day (24 hours) before you need to look for a USB port to recharge it.

The multi-language Quick Start Guide explains which bud does what for the ability to move forward or back a track answer a phone call etc.

When out and about in most towns these days there will be people trying to divest you of your phone so keeping it secure in your pocket or bag is a must. As the earbuds can work with SIRI or Google this is also helpful to arriving home with the items that you left with.

I normally have a problem with the earbuds gels after an hour or so of use as my ears tend to expand slightly so they become uncomfortable not so with the earbuds here as there are no gels and the arms on the back of  the earbuds hold them securely without the plugging effect of most gels.

A lot of earbuds are sold saying they are great for those who partake in vigorous exercise; my vigorous exercise is trotting a few metres for a bus.

However to be fair I tried moving my head vigorously when indoors and the buds still stayed in place.

As for sound quality it was fine and once you sort your left from your right moving amongst your tracks works well.

At the time of publication the Zen Air Dot earbuds are available from amazon for £29.99.
