A Stylish Earpiece

The Discovery 925 is a Bluetooth earpiece from Plantronics “signature” range of designer headsets. The kit consists of the earpiece unit with a medium ear tip already to place. You also get a small and large ear tip enabling you to match the earpiece with your particular ear size; a leather-clad case for charging and protecting the earpiece when not in use; leads for charging the earpiece via USB or mains; and a small User Manual.
As such a device as this is meant to be worn, it does help if the device has a touch of style. There can be no complaints in this regard with the Discovery 925. Shaped like a diamond perched on top of a drop-down V-shaped tail, the earpiece is available with a choice of Onyx Black, Alchemy Gold or Cerise Pink each with silver trimmings. A mini-USB port and volume control button are located on the top sides of the diamond while its face acts as the power control and provides feedback as to the current status. While the Discovery 925 might not make you the centre of attention on looks alone in the fashion stakes, this earpiece looks pleasant enough and is not too obtrusive when being worn.
When charging the Discovery 925 you have a choice of methods. You can use the supplied AC charger direct to the earpiece or attached to the case when it houses the Discovery 925. An alternative method would be to use the USB lead and connect the device to a computer. A full charge takes three hours and gives five hours of talk time with up to seven days on standby.
Apart from controlling the volume level, all the other controls for this device use the front face of the earpiece, referred to as the control button, with one exception which I will return to shortly. Depending upon whether you just tap the control button or hold it down for a length of time (2 or 4 seconds), you can turn the earpiece on/off; answer, reject or end calls; plus, naturally make a phone call. The Discover 925 supports multipoint functionality which means it can be linked to two different phones. This would prove very useful if you are in the habit of using a business phone during the day and a different phone for personal use in the evening. Activating this feature requires holding down the volume button and control button simultaneously.
While hardly a fan of the ear-bud style of device, I found the Discovery 925 to be comfortably and there were even times when I forgot I was wearing it. Clarity is not a problem, no doubt helped by the device’s use of AudioIQ technology to filter out background noise. I do have one slight criticism of the Discovery 925 which relates to the case. I found it rather awkward removing the earpiece from the case when it was connected to the charger facility. Other than this, I can recommend the Plantronics Discovery 925. Measuring 69 x 25 x 26mm and weighing 8.5g, the Discovery 925 has an official price of £69.99.
