Want to stay in contact to your young child but do not want to risk them losing a phone? The answer may be this Disney offering from Vodafone that links to an app in your phone your child can message or even phone you via an eSIM in the watch but they cannot access the Internet or other places so this maybe a step to independence for them before you finally give in and let them have a phone.

While this is described as a ‘Kids’ watch it does not look especially ‘kids’ like and I can see it being useful for an older person with learning difficulties to enable them to contact someone should they find themselves in an unfamiliar area.
The watch face is oval at just over 4x4cm and just under 1.5cm thick. The unit sent to me had a greeny blue strap and white sides on the watch. The strap was big enough to fit my adult wrist.
While the stated time between charges was only 24 hours due to several factors I managed over a week on my initial tests. I suspect two days may be more accurate unless the child is using it all the time throughout the day.
The charger is a magnetic end to a USB lead that attaches to the back of the watch.
The watches camera is on one end while the control is the button on the opposite end. Just to the right of the camera is a growth on the side that you push to call.
You scroll the screen using touch and there are three screens of four icons to get to everything the watch can do. Chat, Calendar, Camera and Photos the first screen, scroll right to left for the next screen which gives Weather, Calculator, more characters and a return icon, scroll again two different stop watches, more characters and a step counter for those exercising. There are at least a dozen different ring tones which are not loud but there is also vibrate mode.
There are a range of Disney characters some of the more recent ones are Aerial, Donald Duck and Olaf – with more to follow shortly – but my avatar was Chewbacca which suits my style and once you wake the screen he wanders slowly in from the left beside the digital watch time this stays on for eight seconds before it blanks.
One way to make the battery last longer between charges is to turn it off overnight, a four second push of the button at the base of the screen and then 30 seconds while it wakes, it does not lose the time while turned off.
One touch brings up a screen with Airplane Mode, Brightness and Volume with battery state etc. just below.
For me anyway this is far more than a ‘Kids Watch’, it keeps perfect time and the Calendar can even remind the child that he/she is going to Grannies for tea today.
