ACER Swift 16inch

This is one of the latest offerings from ACER and it has a larger screen but is still quite light. So anyone who needs to use it on the move the 3200x2000 default screen resolution can show that much more.

The Acer Aspire Swift Edge 16" laptop measures 35x24x1cm and weighs only 1233grams. Going around the outside has two USB 'C', HDMI and USB3. The front is clear. On the right side is a micro SD card port, 3.5 headphone socket, USB3, two LED's and a Kensington lock socket.

Open the lid and the screen has .5cm border on the left and right side, the 1cm on the top has web cam in the centre. There is a 1cm border on the bass. The screen itself is 34x21.5cm, the diagonal notional imperial measurement is 16inches. The keyboard has 101 keys and there is 2cm clear on either side, 3cm clear behind and the 12x8cm trackpad is mounted 8.5cm from the left and 14cm from the right with 10cm clear in front.

The processor is an AMD Ryzen 7 running at 3.3GHz. It has 16GB of memory (15.2GB available) and a 1TB SSD drive with 890GB free. It runs Windows 11 Home 23H2 version.

Bootup varies a little between 10 and 16 seconds while shutdown to a blank screen is only 2 seconds.

I don't get to see a lot of AMD processors but my range of tests seemed to show it was as good as most Intel offerings.

The default screen resolution of 3200x2000 is set by default at 200% and while you would need very sharp eyesight to view at 100% somewhere in between for most should be possible which can then show a lot more of most websites.

The lack of weight and the larger screen are the main selling points for this unit, certainly walking around with it either in or out of a bag works better than with heavier units would, and the extra screen resolution is another plus. A good indication of speed is the time it takes to reset before return and here its only 15 minutes a record for units I have reviewed.

The ACER Swift 16inch is available from Currys for £899.
