For the next title in their series of Gaslamp Cases, e-Funsoft take us on a trip to Scotland. The investigative duo of Morgan and Jack are ordered to put their investigative skills to the test and check out the stories regarding the appearance of the Loch Ness monster emerging from Scotland and grabbing the recent headlines. These reports have even brought about a reward of £20,000 being offered for the capture of the beast.
In the usual fashion adopted by e-Funsoft, the Morgan and Jack investigation will be carried out by the completion of 70 Match 3 levels. These will be spread over five chapters of a story line played out through rather static cur-scenes. The actual game play will be carried out in either Times or Relaxed mode as you build up resources to instigate a number of updates to the playing view as you make progress.
Sticking with its normal practice, e-Funsoft Match 3 game play sets the level grid in a central position filled with various embellished tiles featuring elements appearing within the game. The grid is sandwiched between a small selection of power-ups on the left and the grid's challenge made up of the number and types of tiles to be removed on the right in order to complete the level.
Usually tiles will be removed by swapping two adjacent tiles to create a group of three or more similar tiles. The resulting groups will explode and possible destroy other tiles in the vicinity. The space thus created will be filled by other tiles falling downwards. This can sometimes create further groups and bring about a cascading effect.
The supplied power-ups can also be used to help clear tiles. Fortunately, due to the small number of power-ups supplied, you can supplement your initial supply by creating your own power-ups. Thus task is achieved by creating a group of more than four tiles. Depending upon the number of tiles, you will get a bomb of appropriate power. With a little effort you will be able to manipulate the bomb to create the best effect.
Occasionally a grid will contain a special type of tiles which cannot form part of a group. This tile is referred to as a Crystal and displays a shimmering effect. To remove it you will need to create a pathway beneath it so it falls to the base of the grid and can be retrieved. A Crystal will always form part of the challenge when appearing on a grid.
As mentioned earlier, you will need to work through five chapters that each feature 4 upgrades. Following an upgrade there will be a cut-scene as a pair of static characters move the story line along with their dialogue displayed in text format rather than being spoken as happened in some earlier titles.
If you do not expect too many surprises then Gaslamp Cases 10 - The Loch Ness Monster Enigma should not disappoint. It can be downloaded from Gamehouse.com where it is priced at $9.99. You can also download it from Big Fish Games priced at £7.64. The game requires a 1.5GHz processor with 1024MB of RAM and 1.33MB of hard disk space running Windows 7 and later.
