The full title is Melitta LOOK Therm Timer, the last three words do not seem to be related but when use the machine they start to make sense.
It is 36cm tall, 23cm wide and 20cm from front to back.
The water tank can hold enough water for up to 10 large cups of coffee (or 15 smaller ones) the scale on the front of the tank is divided into two sides showing both measurements.
The amount of filter coffee you place in the filter will depend on the way you like your coffee. The recommendation is 6grams per large cup. I started by filling the water tank to eight cups level and once I placed the filter in added 50grams of coffee.
I set the delay at zero switched on and around 12 minutes later had a Thermos full of coffee which I enjoyed over the next day and a bit. The Thermos held the heat as the machine turns off automatically once perked.
For me anyway the best feature is absolutely no mess the filter and the grounds are contained and you just lift out and place directly into the bin.
Basically the top part around 15cm is the filter area and to its right the water tank, the Thermos is the area below the filter and the area below the water tank the various controls. All very straightforward with gravity delivering the perked coffee into the otherwise sealed Thermos.
In Theory unless you press the button on the top of the thermos nothing comes out and this also helps maintain heat. I am not suggesting that anyone should consume 8 large cups of coffee in a day – or a day and a bit – but a small office could consume this by 9AM.
The unit does have the ability to work out things according to the hardness of your water.
While 12 minutes is not a long period having the timer means that wait is totally negated. Assuming you never remove power from the machine the correct time is maintained and indeed the delay to the next batch of coffee being perked.
Just remember to fill the water tank place a new filter and the right amount of filter coffee in the machine before you leave the office and set the delay, then as you open the office door – or your kitchen – you are greeted by just perked coffee.
While do you require to purchase filters Melitta do supply your first pack in with the machine and changing and fitting the replacement is totally mess free.
In my tests I found that even several hours later the coffee was still very drinkable and only the next day did it need warming in the microwave for a few seconds but it was never designed to do 24 hours of unpowered heat retention.
At the time of publication the Melitta Look Therm Timer is available from Amazon for £166.09.
