With no extension in the cups the distance from the lower edge of the cup to the base of the padded headband is 16cm and as there is up to 4cm of extension in each arm this can be increased to 20cm so it should suit any head from an older child to a large headed person. With the pads parallel and fully extended the distance between them is 17cm and fully contracted it is 13cm.
The total weight of the headset is 378 grams.
The left side has a chunky microphone arm that goes up parallel to the headband or can be lowered to sit level with the left side of your mouth or even slightly lower but then it may contact your chin.
Each earpiece has a full 2cm of padding so any external noise should be heavily muffled if not totally removed.
There is some forward movement in the independently sprung ear pieces.
A 1.35 metre braided good quality lead has a 2.5mm connection in the base of the left ear piece and runs to a gold plated 3.5mm 90 degree connection.
There is a second lead of 2.4metres which a 2.5mm connection on one end and a pair of 3.5mm connections on the other end.
Also in the solid box which has a fitted inside to allow safe transportation of the headset are a thick booklet in nineteen languages and a thin folded sheet to explain the headset and leads.
As stated the microphone resides on the side of the left ear piece and drops down when required, however the control from off to volume up and down are on the outside of the right ear piece.
As always with any set of headphones or earbuds I test a whole range of sounds from music I like to music not of my taste as well as speech in both male and female. The Sennheiser ticked all the boxes with clear sound easily followed even in the higher resisters that can often give problems for those of us in the older age range.
Everything I said into the microphone was also easily recordable and re-playable.
As is required of a gaming headset the ear pieces fully cover the ears and for me anyway this means my ears sweat so being able to remove the material to allow it to dry is important and full instructions are given in the folded sheet.
Being able to hear the sound of a key in a lock may be the difference – for a gamer –between life and death, with this Sennheiser headset any sound is easily heard, without the headset and using standard speakers not so especially if there are external noises.
The Sennheiser GSP 500 Open Acoustic Gaming Headset is available direct from Sennheiser for £199.99 or from Amazon for £193.80, both with free delivery.
