The Art of Numbers

Let numbers take the strain as you produce works of art with this next title.

T1 continues its drive to inspire the hidden artist concealed within each and everyone of us.  The latest thrust in the company's campaign is entitled Modern Art 14.  Like the company's recent offerings, this release is based on the concept of Paint by Numbers when trying to impress friends and family members with your ability to produce full colour scenes of "your" art work.

With more than 60 outline sketch images, divided into numbered sections waiting to be filled in, T1 spreads its supply of images over a series of pages.  These pages will each feature eight sketches.  You will need to complete the full complement of sketches on each page before being allowed to progress on to the next selection of images.  Each sketch image can be coloured in by adding the appropriate hue to the appropriate numbered section.

Once you have select your chosen sketch from those available on the current page, the selected image will be transferred to a work area.  The sketch will sit next to a panel providing the supplied tools necessary for the application of colour to the sketch and you are ready to start developing your artist skills.  The panel will feature two colour palettes, a zoom adjustment lever, a revert to normal view button and a Hint option that is hardly likely to be used.

One of the colour palettes is used for selecting your choice of a background colour which actually doubles as the colour used to highlight the current numbered sections that are to be coloured.  The second palette provides access to all the different colours that will feature within the completed sketch.  You have the options of working through the different numbered sections either in sequences or from your own random selection.

In either case a warning sound will be delivered to indicate when the current number is competed.  Whichever method is your choice, the currently selected numbered section will be highlighted by the background colour you have selected.  You will also be provided with an enlarged copy of the current number being tackled when a relevant section is approached by the mouse cursor.

While many of the sections found in various sketches will be of a reasonable size and easily detected, some sections could be of a small size and relatively easy to miss.   In such circumstances you have the ability to call on the supplied zoom feature which will enlarge the view of the sketch to a more appropriate size.  The zoom level can be adjusted using the slider bar on the panel or by using the mouse wheel.

However this will usually cause areas of the sketch to be too large to fit within the screen area.  With the sketch in its enlarged state, you have the capability to move the viewable area of the sketch around the screen under the control of the right mouse button.  Normal viewing can be re-established by the revert button on the panel.

While the completed images I produced using this product were of a reasonable standard, I was disappointed that no additional features had been added to make use of these images.  There is no facility to save the completed images elsewhere, add an appropriate title to a particular image or even place a frame around a favourite image.

I downloaded my copy of this product from Gamehouse.com where it is priced at $9.99.  If you prefer then the game is available from Big Fish Games priced at £7.80.  System requirements call for a 1.0 GHz processor with 512MB of RAM and 163MB of hard disk space running Windows 7 and later.
